Candidate who defeated Dan Crenshaw goes scorched earth on James Talarico

Republican Texas State Rep. Steve Toth called Democratic State Rep. James Talarico “evil” and said he was proof of “a demonic presence in the world” during a Wednesday interview.

Toth’s remarks came after he defeated Republican Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw in his bid for a fifth term in the House in Tuesday’s primary. Toth said on “The Charlie Kirk Show” that he had served with Talarico for years in the Texas state House and accused him of being part of a coalition of Democrats who blocked his legislation on election integrity and protecting children.

“When I put forth legislation to secure our elections, it gets killed by the Democrats. When I put forth legislation to end the social transition of children, it gets killed by the Democrats,” Toth said. “It’s evil. Talarico is part of that group. I served with James Talarico from 2019 through to today. This guy is as evil as they come.”

“There is a darkness to this man’s life … if you doubt that there is a wickedness and an evil and a demonic presence in the world, you only have to look at James Talarico,” he added. “He’s an awful, awful person. Awful person.”

Talarico, a former public school teacher who is currently attending a Presbyterian seminary, beat Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett in Tuesday’s primary. He has espoused outlandish rhetoric regarding the Bible and God on multiple occasions during his political career, including arguing that the Bible justified abortion.

“In committee, I listened to 15 hours of testimony about this bill. The worst part, for me, was the number of Christians who used scripture to justify hurting children. Even on this floor today, a member tried to justify a hateful amendment in the name of God’s law,” Talarico claimed during a 2021 debate in the state Legislature on legislation to prevent child sex change procedures.

“So, let’s talk about that,” Talarico continued. “The first two lines of the Bible, the first two lines of Genesis, use two different Hebrew words to describe God. One is the masculine Hebrew noun for divinity, the second is the feminine Hebrew noun for spirit. God is both masculine and feminine and everything in between. God is nonbinary.”

Talarico also said America’s southern border should have “a giant welcome mat” during his Jan. 24 primary debate against Crockett.
