Trump’s jab at Pelosi draws ovation from an unlikely source

President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address included a jab at a former House speaker and an ovation from an unlikely source.

While most Democrats stayed silent through Trump’s speech to the nation, progressive lawmaker Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) actually gave him a standing ovation when he mentioned the Stop Insider Trading Act. He asked Congress to pass the act, which would prevent lawmakers, their dependent children, and their spouses from being able purchase publicly traded stock, and force the previously mentioned parties to give advanced notice before selling off stock. This will level the playing field and prevent allegations of insider trading, such as those that have plagued former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has made a killing on the stock market during her time as an elected official.

“As we ensure that all Americans can profit from a rising stock market, let’s also ensure that members of Congress cannot corruptly profit using inside information. Pass the Stop Insider Trading Act without delay,” the president said.

Warren, who has had more than her fair share of disagreements with the president over the course of his time in the Oval Office, unbelievably stood up to clap for Trump at this point in his speech. Her support for similar legislation makes them unlikely allies on this issue, and it didn’t escape the president’s notice.

“They stood up for that — I can’t believe it. Did Nancy Pelosi stand up for that?” Trump asked. “Doubt it.”

Pelosi could be seen sitting in the audience wearing a “Release the [REDACTED] Files” pin, which was mysteriously absent during former President Joe Biden’s administration. She was located next to progressive Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), who was taking notes during the longest-ever State of the Union address.

Warren also stood after Trump made it clear that Iran cannot be allowed to secure a nuclear weapon.

Meanwhile, other leftist lawmakers tried to cause a scene during the State of the Union. Marking the second year in a row, Rep. Al Green (D-TX) was kicked out after unfurling a sign that read “Black People Aren’t Apes” and waving it around. Squad members Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) left of their own accord after heckling and interrupting Trump.

The Stop Insider Trading Act has successfully cleared a House committee, but is awaiting a full vote from the chamber before it can continue the process to become law.
