The Washington Post incorrectly quoted President Donald Trump twice in a single article on Tuesday.
The article incorrectly quoted Trump calling National Guard troops “bad guys,” though the president actually said that “bad guys” do not want to mess with them. Another quote falsely quoted Trump saying Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will make mistakes at times because they are “rough people,” but he actually said that ICE is “dealing with rough people.”
“A previous version of this article incorrectly quoted President Donald Trump as describing National Guard troops as ‘bad guys,’” the correction reads. “He said that ‘these are big, strong guys that bad guys look at them and say, we’re not going to mess with them.’”
The second incorrect quote pertaining to ICE agents has not currently been updated or corrected.
“[Trump] then seemed to open the possibility that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were too heavy-handed. ‘They’re going to make a mistake sometimes, too rough with somebody. You know they are rough people,’” the article quoted Trump saying.
The correct quote is, “ICE is going to be too rough with somebody, or, you know, they’re dealing with rough people.”
Trump spoke at the podium for nearly two hours in the briefing room, where he highlighted the administration’s policies and accomplishments. At one instance, he held up mugshots of several illegal alien criminals who had committed heinous crimes, while the media and Democrats have accused ICE of mistreating illegal aliens.
The Washington Post did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
