Trump takes ‘MASSIVE victory lap’ on tariff ‘experts’

President Donald Trump is closing out the first year of his second term by taking a victory lap over the success of his tariffs.

The leader of the United States took to Truth Social to brag about his victory, despite experts sounding alarm bells about the potential negative impacts of his policies.

“Tariffs are creating GREAT WEALTH, and unprecedented National Security for the USA. Trade deficit has been cut by 60%, totally unheard of. 4.3% GDP, and going way up. No inflation!!! We are respected as a Country again,” Trump wrote on Saturday morning.

Indeed, even The New York Times reported on the good news:

The U.S. trade deficit in goods and services narrowed more than 10 percent from August to September, as the Trump administration’s tariffs continued to weigh on trade, data from the Commerce Department showed on Thursday.

Imports grew just 0.6 percent from August to $342.1 billion, while exports rose 3 percent in the month, to $289.3 billion. Because exports grew more than imports, the U.S. trade deficit shrank, in line with the Trump administration’s goals.

At $52.8 billion, the trade deficit in goods and services hit its lowest level in September since June 2020, when the United States was in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

On December 11, the White House released an article offering more information on the positive economic report.

“The seasonally adjusted trade deficit with China has narrowed to its second-smallest since 2009,” the page reads. “In the third quarter of 2025, real exports grew by a 4.1% annual rate and imports fell by around 5% — adding about 1% to real GDP growth.”
