Keith Ellison now claims ignorance about Antifa, but the Internet is forever

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has developed a sudden case of amnesia when it comes to the existence of Antifa.

The former Minnesota congressman and member of the Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party joined Democrats in downplaying, even denying the existence of the group labeled domestic terrorists by President Donald Trump.

Ellison claimed Trump was the “first person” he ever heard using the term “Antifa,” and his outright denial of the existence of the far-left militant movement that has reportedly organized and enabled violent protests in U.S. cities drew immediate criticism on social media.

“There really is no Antifa as an institutional organization… Nobody even knows what it is,” Ellison said in an MSNBC appearance as he reacted to remarks from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem during a White House roundtable on the rise of political violence.

“The first person I ever heard use the word Antifa was Donald J. Trump when he was going on about Charlottesville,” Ellison claimed.

But X users quickly reminded the Minnesota AG that the Internet is forever, sharing a 2018 post in which he held up a book, Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook, with a caption stating it would “strike fear in the heart” of Trump.

Evidently, Ellison forgot that his own son, Minneapolis City Councilman Jeremiah Ellison, boldly declared his “support” for Antifa in 2020.

Ellison’s hypocritical take on the existence of Antifa was met with mockery – and a walk down memory lane – on X.
