“Shark Tank” star Kevin O’Leary caused a CNN panel to erupt Tuesday when he called former Vice President Kamala Harris a “loser” who got “slaughtered.”
Harris lost the 2024 presidential election to then-former President Donald Trump after then-President Joe Biden announced he was dropping his re-election bid following a disastrous performance in a June 27 debate with Trump. O’Leary called Harris a “loser” while pointing out that she had not won the Democratic nomination in a primary, causing several CNN panelists to come unglued.
“They did not run a process. They picked a loser, and she lost, and she got slaughtered because they didn‘t run a process,” O’Leary said, causing podcaster Van Latham to respond, “Whoa, whoa, whoa. First of all, first of all, first of all, like, let’s just make sure that we maintain some respect for Kamala Harris.”

“The former vice president of the United States,” Democratic strategist Karen Finney added, with Lathan saying, “Referring to her as a loser, I think referring to her as a loser-”
“She was never elected in the process,” O’Leary said, “She should have run against other contenders.”
Harris reportedly secured the support of the necessary delegates to claim the Democratic nomination July 23, 2024, two days after Biden endorsed her following his announcement he would not accept the Democratic nomination.
“And lastly, lastly, there’s nothing about Kamala Harris that’s a loser. Let’s just put a pin on that,” CNN commentator Bakari Sellers said, with O’Leary shooting back with, “No, I think there is. She lost big time.”
Sellers, Lathan, Finney and “CNN Newsnight” host Abby Phillip all piled on O’Leary, with Finney accusing him of being “disrespectful” to Harris.
“I’m not being disrespectful! I’m talking facts! She got slaughtered because they disavowed the process. They anointed her and she got slaughtered,” O’Leary said. “We don’t have to debate facts. We do not have to debate facts.”
“Hold on a second. Hold on a second. Kevin, Kevin, just one point of clarification: she was elected in the 2020 election along with Joe Biden,” Phillip said, with O’Leary responding, “She was not elected as president of the United States because she was anointed into that position.”
Harris’ campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination in the 2020 election ended in December 2019, before the Iowa caucuses.
“It’s hard to tell the truth. She couldn’t put two sentences together,” O’Leary said after Phillip again noted Harris was elected vice president in 2020.
