Joe Biden’s ‘routine physical exam’ turns up health problem, needs further evaluation

Former President Joe Biden’s “routine physical exam” turned up an item of concern that multiple reports indicate will need “further evaluation.”

A spokesperson for the former president spoke to ABC News about the finding, which is described as a “small nodule” on his prostate.

“In a routine physical exam, a small nodule was found in the prostate, which necessitated further evaluation,” they said, not adding any further details.

It is not uncommon for such nodules to be found, and only further testing can identify whether it is a benign bump caused by standard inflammation or something perhaps more serious, such as prostate cancer or infection. However, the former president’s medical history could shed some more light on what the problem could be.

In 2023, Biden had basal cell carcinoma removed from his chest. White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor confirmed at the time that “[a]ll cancerous tissue was successfully removed” and “[n]o further treatment is required.”

“Basal cell carcinoma lesions do not tend to ‘spread’ or metastasize, as some more serious skin cancers, such as melanoma or squamous cell carcinoma, are known to do,” the physician explained. “They do, however, have the potential to increase in size, resulting in a more significant issue as well as increased challenges for surgical removal.”

Prior to taking office, the former president had “several non-melanoma skin cancers removed with Mohs surgery,” according to ABC.
