Congressional crooks join arms to abolish Trump tariffs, Musk smells a rat

Democrats and Republicans in Congress may fight like cats and dogs, but there is one area where there is common ground: protecting the corrupt spoils system that lines their pockets.

In a show of bipartisanship rarely seen in the modern era, lawmakers from both parties are unifying against President Donald J. Trump’s tariffs on foreign countries that have been allowed to exploit the U.S. on trade for decades.

Moving swiftly to react to Trump’s fulfilling his campaign promises with his “Liberation Day” tariffs, bipartisan groups of lawmakers in both houses have put together legislation designed to sabotage the president’s efforts to level the playing field and protect American workers against the exploiters who have offshored their jobs to low cost foreign locations for decades.

Democrat Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) touted the newfound unity between the parties against a common threat, proclaiming, “We have a duty to act in a bipartisan way to repeal these tariffs.”

Wall Street’s senator was speaking at a press conference where a resolution to reverse Trump’s tariffs was announced with Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) joining the minority leader and fellow leftist Sens. Ron Wyden (D-OR), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and Peter Welch (D-VT).

“Tariffs are taxes, and the power to tax belongs to Congress, not the president. Our Founders were clear: tax policy should never rest in the hands of one person,” the Kentucky Republican said, playing the role as the Democrats’ useful idiot with the opposition party fully understanding that Paul’s inflexible libertarian dogma makes him vulnerable to them.

In addition to Paul, at least seven other GOP senators, led by geriatric ex-leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), have joined arms with their Democrat brethren to sabotage Trump’s new tariffs.

Joining McConnell are the usual duo of Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) along with Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Todd Young (R-IN) and Jerry Moran (R-KS) who are backing the Trade Review Act of 2025 which would severely limit Trump’s presidential powers on trade.

In the House of Representatives, Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) went on Sunday morning TV to announce he would be unveiling legislation to protect the feeding trough from Trump.

Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) chief Elon Musk, who has been constantly demonized by Schumer and Democrats, pointed out the distinctly rodent-like smell of the minority leader’s incessant demagoguery, suggesting that his opposition may be more based on his own self-interest than principle.

“Chuck, I’m starting to think you’re getting a piece of the action with the government fraud. But no, that couldn’t possibly be the reason, could it?” Musk wrote in a post to X, responding to Schumer’s rant about the tariffs.

Schumer likely isn’t the only one getting a “piece of the action” which is being spread around in a bipartisan manner, thus the alliance of Dems and GOP lawmakers against Trump’s tariffs that threaten to derail their gravy train.
