‘Complete disappointment’: Florida Republican slams Trump DOJ over Epstein docs release

The build up to a release of Jeffrey Epstein documents proved to be a letdown and prompted one Republican lawmaker to express her “complete disappointment.”

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) demanded that President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice release “the information we asked for” in a post on social media after the anticipated files were revealed Thursday.

“I nor the task force were given or reviewed the Epstein documents being released today… A NY Post story just revealed that the documents will simply be Epstein’s phonebook,” Luna posted on X.

“THIS IS NOT WHAT WE OR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ASKED FOR and a complete disappointment,” the Florida Republican added. “GET US THE INFORMATION WE ASKED FOR!”

The congresswoman leading the House Oversight Committee’s Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets has been pressing the DOJ for the release of the documents related to the deceased sex trafficker, sending letters to the department on Feb. 11 and Feb. 19.

“On Feb 11 & Feb 19, House Oversight sent a letter to the DOJ asking for status on releasing the Epstein files as well as JFK etc.,” Luna wrote in a post on X earlier this week. “The DOJ has not responded. Reaching out on X because we can’t seem to get a response from the AG. @AGPamBondi what is the status of the documents? These documents were ordered to be declassified.”

“The Department remains committed to meeting its legal recordkeeping obligations as it pursues that mission,” the DOJ responded to the lawmaker on Wednesday. “We are reviewing your requests and look forward to engaging further to accommodate your oversight and legislative needs.”

Later that evening, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on “Jesse Watters Primetime” that documents would be released the next day. Binders marked “The Epstein Files: Phase 1” were seen being carried by several social media influencers outside of the White House on Thursday. But, as previewed by a source reported in the New York Post, the documents contained, for the most part, information that was already available in the public record.

Bondi fired off a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel about how the FBI Field Office in New York was withholding “thousands of pages” of Epstein documents.

“By 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, February 28, the FBI will deliver the full and complete Epstein files to my office, including all records, documents, audio and video recordings, and materials related to Jeffrey Epstein and his clients, regardless of how such information was obtained,” Bondi wrote. “There will be no withholdings or limitations to my or your access.”
