NY state senator compares upcoming Trump event to ‘infamous Nazi rally,’ demands it be canceled

A New York state senator is demanding a rally for former President Donald Trump be canceled, going so far as to liken it to an “infamous” gathering from 1939.

Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal took to X to express his frustration with Trump holding a campaign event at Madison Square Garden, which happens to fall in his district.

“I’ve confirmed with @TheGarden that they signed an agreement with Trump to hold a rally on October 27 at 3 pm at MSG, which is in my Senate district,” he wrote. “Let’s be clear. Allowing Trump to hold an event at MSG is equivalent to the infamous Nazis rally at Madison Square Garden on February 20, 1939.”

“This is a disastrous decision by Madison Square Garden that will endanger the public safety of New Yorkers and has the potential to incite widespread violence,” he continued. “For the good of NYC and its residents, I demand @TheGarden keep our city safe by cancelling the Trump rally.”

Despite receiving a small measure of support on X, most of the comments disagreed with the senator:
