EIGHT GOP senators MIA as Senate confirms Biden’s radical judge for 7th Circuit

The GOP’s ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory incensed allies as a slew of senators were marked as no-shows on a “critical vote.”

In March of this year, U.S. District Judge Nancy Maldonado of the Northern District of Illinois proved her radical bona fides while earning a name for herself as an “incompetent judge” during the Senate hearing on her nomination to the Seventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Monday, eight Republicans stepped off the field and let the Left score a touchdown with a lifetime appointment when West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D) and Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I) would have readily canceled out the 47 Democrats had the GOP had perfect attendance.

Instead, Maldonado, who’d made an embarrassment of herself when pressed on the definition of “assault weapons” after having previously signed a brief calling for them to be abolished with the answer “I am not a gun expert,” secured a promotion with a 47-43 vote.

Judicial Network President Carrie Severino was among those highlighting the eight Republicans marked as not voting alongside Democrat Sens. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and Bob Menendez of New Jersey and decried, “Democrats just promoted a radical and incompetent judge to a lifetime position on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals with only 47 votes. How? Because 8 Republican Senators didn’t show up to vote against Nancy Maldonado.”

“With less than 6 months remaining President Biden’s term, Senate Republicans must show up and present a united front against judicial nominees who pose a threat to the rule of law and our Constitution,” she added.

The list of absent Republicans included:

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas
Sen. John Hoeven of North Dakota
Sen. Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma
Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky
Sen. James Risch of Idaho
Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah
Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida
Sen. Rick Scott of Florida

“Why the hell did so many Senate Republicans miss this critical vote? Manchin and Sinema voted against this Biden nominee. And Menendez is on trial in New York City,” pointed out Article III Project President Mike Davis. “This radical Biden judge’s nomination would have failed. Now we’re stuck with her for the rest of her life.”

The absence of some of the senators was clearly explained, as Cruz remained in the Lone Star State to help with relief for Hurricane Beryl while Rubio and Scott stuck around Florida to campaign alongside former President Donald Trump at an event in Doral, Florida Tuesday. The respective no votes of the other GOP senators were not as apparent and left the impression that they were merely enjoying an extended Independence Day weekend.

During her confirmation hearing, Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy (R), responsible for challenging the judge on her “assault weapons” position, had also called out her record of tardiness when he’d posted, “Of all 68 district judges confirmed last Congress, Judge Maldonado has the THIRD WORST record when it comes to issuing rulings in a timely manner. But Pres. Biden wants to promote her to an appellate court. Why?”

His outrage was matched by voters who called out the GOP for falling short of taking even the smallest of stands against the advancement of the Left’s agenda.
