Maggie Haberman of the New York Times who is covering the latest “trial of the century” live as the top Democrat reporter on the beat claims that former President Donald J. Trump glowered at her in court.
On Monday, the first criminal trial of the presumptive GOP nominee got underway in the heart of the Big Apple where Trump is facing ginned-up charges by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in the case centering on alleged “hush money” paid to porn queen Stormy Daniels.
Haberman appeared on CNN on Monday night after she had fed the talking point of the day into the media spin machine, that Trump appeared to be falling asleep in court, which was pounced on by leftist hacks as a contrast to Joe Biden whose advanced age is a major issue with voters.
“Trump appears to be sleeping. His head keeps dropping down and his mouth goes slack,” she said in a live update, later confirming to a CNN anchor that another reporter’s claim, that Trump had “glared” at her, was correct.

“At one point, the pool said that he was glaring at you for several seconds,” Collins said. “You had reported shortly before that during a break that he appeared to be falling asleep at one point as the proceedings were getting kind of tedious. Did you notice that?”
“Mmhm,” Haberman responded. “Yes, I noticed. He made a pretty specific stare at me and walked out of the room.”
“I’ve been on the receiving end of said glares,” likely referring to Trump’s treatment of her during last year’s town hall with the former president in New Hampshire last year which triggered an internal mutiny that contributed to costing former CNN boss Chris Licht his job.
“I have too,” she continued. “I reported earlier that he had appeared to fall asleep, now, we had seen him… I want to be clear that I’ve seen lots of people fall asleep in courtrooms. I’ve seen jurors fall asleep. I’ve seen judges fall asleep. If anyone falls asleep who’s a criminal defendant in a case, we’re gonna report on it but he doesn’t like when such things are reported and I’m guessing, I don’t know, that that’s what this was about”
“I think that having to sit there and be captive while we all report on him is going to be deeply uncomfortable for him because he is somebody who likes to control things,” Haberman added.
“He sat motionless while his own words from the infamous ‘Access Hollywood’ tape — on which bragged about grabbing women’s genitals — were read from a transcript by a prosecutor,” Haberman wrote in her New York Times report on the day’s proceedings. “At times, Mr. Trump’s emotions were characteristically on display. He smirked and scoffed, and appeared frustrated when the judge in the case, Juan M. Merchan, did not immediately agree that he could miss court to attend the graduation of his youngest son, Barron.”
Haberman doesn’t just report the news, she makes the news by inserting herself directly into the story.
