Woes for Fani Willis reached beyond her relationship scandal as a former employee had turned whistleblower to a key House committee.
Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Willis (D) has found herself facing intense scrutiny over the stated timeline of her personal relationship with Special Counsel Nathan Wade who was brought on to manage the investigation of former President Donald Trump. That potential impropriety may only be one aspect of alleged wrongdoing from the elected official as the House Judiciary Committee chair confirmed staff was in talks with a whistleblower.
In a conversation Friday with American Conservative Union Chairman Matt Schlapp at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan (R) noted Willis’ tardy response to a subpoena that had been issued for documents at the beginning of the month.
“We haven’t heard back from her yet — we’ll see what we get from her — but there’s a whistleblower in her office who we have talked to, our committee staff,” said the Judiciary chair to applause from the audience.

As had been reported when the subpoena had initially been issued, the whistleblower’s identity was said to be that of former Fulton County District Attorney’s Office employee Amanda Timpson, who claimed that she had been demoted after an attempt to stop the misuse of federal grant money designated for a youth gang prevention initiative by a campaign aide of Willis.
Timpson was subsequently fired.
“The whistleblower, I think she’s like 4-foot-11, but Fani Willis had seven police like escort her out when she fired this lady because this lady raised the concern that Ms. Willis was…not following the grant — rules of the grant and the grant dollars in the appropriate manner,” detailed Jordan.
“She’s now talking with our office and we’ll see where that goes,” he added “And that’s why we subpoenaed for records and documents related to this.”
In his letter to Willis at the beginning of February that accompanied the subpoena, Jordan wrote, “The Committee’s oversight of your office’s use of federal grant funds is particularly relevant in light of public whistleblower allegations that it has misused federal funding. According to a recent report, your office unlawfully ‘planned to use part of a $488,000 federal grant–earmarked for the creation of a Center of Youth Empowerment and Gang Prevention’–to cover frivolous, unrelated expenses.”
The congressman’s update came as an investigator for the president had produced cellphone data showing Willis and Wade’s devices together in her neighborhood overnight on several occasions before the testified beginning of their relationship.
Radio host Megyn Kelly commented on the submission to the court, “Stunning that Team Trump got their hands on this in the #FaniWillis case. More evidence that these two prosecutors lied, under oath. They’re looking at perjury charges and worse. Discipline from the Bar. And there is zero chance they can stay on this case. It’s DONE.”
