Flexing influence throughout the region, an Iranian official threatened Israel with a “huge earthquake” if their “war criminals” didn’t back down on Gaza.
While Hamas had called for a global jihad on Friday, setting populations around the world on high alert, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian had mobilized himself and met with leaders in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. Speaking with reporters in the latter’s capital Beirut Saturday, the foreign official warned that Hezbollah could escalate the war if Israel didn’t back down.
“I know about the scenarios that Hezbollah has put in place. Any step the resistance (Hezbollah) will take will cause a huge earthquake in the Zionist entity,” Amirabdollahian expressed.
The message came after he had met with a top Hamas official, Saleh Arouri, and the leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement, Ziad Nakhaleh, according to Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV. The Iranian foreign minister added, “I want to warn the war criminals and those who support this entity before it’s too late to stop the crimes against civilians in Gaza, because it might be too late in a few hours.”
The Associated Press laid out that Hezbollah is considered by Israel to be “its most serious immediate threat, estimating it has some 150,000 rockets and missiles, including precision-guided missiles that can hit anywhere in Israel. The group, which has thousands of battle-hardened fighters who participated in Syria’s 12-year-conflict, also has different types of military drones.”
Amirabdollahian’s appraisal of the threat posed to Israel followed a Friday meeting with Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. Of course, no trip connecting with terror leaders throughout the Middle East would be complete without a stop in Doha, Qatar where the Iranian official was seen embracing Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh Saturday night.

Meanwhile, as many have expressed their view that an appropriate response from Israel, after the October 7 terrorist attacks resulted in the slaughter of more than 1,300, would be to completely wipeout Hamas the United Nations floundered in its condemnation of the evil committed and even helped convey Amirabdollahian’s message to Israeli leadership.
Axios reported that the foreign minister met with Tor Wennesland, a Norwegian diplomat and UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, who made note of Iranian red lines in the region should Israel continue to take action toward self-preservation.
Speaking with Israeli national security adviser Tzachi Hanegbi and others, Wennesland’s office confirmed to the outlet that they discussed “diplomatic efforts to release hostages, de-escalate and prevent a spillover of the conflict to the wider region.”
Amidst the threats and talks with the various heads of terror organizations, Amirabdollahian added to reporters that “there is still an opportunity to work on an initiative (to end the war) but it might be too late tomorrow.”
