DeSantis: Trump failed to drain swamp, never locked up Hillary, had 3 years to fire Chris Wray

Record versus rhetoric drove Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ latest pitch to pick him over former President Donald Trump under whom he argued “the swamp got worse.”

Now facing four indictments, the perceived political persecution of the president has ramped up concerns of a weaponized government and a two-tiered justice system. During a Tuesday appearance on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” the governor made his case for why he is the candidate to put a stop to that by using Trump-nominee, FBI Director Christopher Wray to bolster his point.

When asked by host Laura Ingraham about the “political lawfare” against Trump and what that meant for electability, DeSantis retorted that “…the question really is, ‘what are we gonna do about all this, Laura?”

“For example, with me as president, on day one, Christopher Wray gets sent packing,” the candidate declared. “You’re gonna see the DOJ cleared out. We are gonna ensure a single standard of justice in this country again. And I can say that with credibility, because I’ve done that in the state of Florida.”

“We’ve drained the swamp in here. We’ve gotten rid of negligent election supervisors in South Florida. We’ve removed two different progressive prosecutors funded by Soros who were not enforcing the law,” he continued.

As it happened, last week DeSantis held a press conference where he announced the suspension of State Attorney Monique Worrell from Florida’s Ninth Judicial Circuit for alleged dereliction.

At that time, the governor stated, “It is my duty as governor to ensure that the laws enacted by our duly elected legislature are followed. The people of central Florida deserve to have a state attorney who will seek justice in accordance with the law instead of allowing violent criminals to roam the streets and find new victims.”

Having done the same to Hillsborough County State Attorney Andrew Warren earlier this year, DeSantis went on to Ingraham, “So I’ve shown an ability to take action and get the job done. And as the president, I am gonna do the same thing.”

Pushing back on the candidate’s argument, Ingraham wondered if he was suggesting Trump wouldn’t “fire Wray or wouldn’t try to reform the FBI? It seems like he really has a personal interest in really doing that at this point, no?”

“Well he had three years to fire Christopher Wray and he didn’t fire him,” DeSantis countered before turning to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “And remember, I went to the rallies in 2016, Laura. You remember ’em — lock her up, lock her up, about holding Hillary accountable.”

“And then, two weeks after the election,” the governor contended, “he said never mind that I said that and let her off the hook.”

“I give him credit, even though we’re competing, for the great things he did do,” noted DeSantis. “But one of the things he did not do was drain the swamp. I mean the swamp got worse in his four years and you had people like Wray, you had people in power who were not getting the job done. You gotta take very swift action and you gotta make it happen.”

At the time of this post, Trump had not responded to DeSantis’ comments as he focused more directly on his indictments and wrote on Truth Social, “These monsters, all controlled and coordinated by the DOJ and Radical Left Lunatics, are Criminalizing Political Speech, a total SHUTDOWN OF DEMOCRACY!”
