A racial inquisition aimed at whites is underway based on the erroneous notion that the number one threat to the nation is ingrained intolerance by white people. “Today,” said Robert Spencer in PJMedia, “to be white is to be evil.” Trashing white people is acceptable to many on the Left because they believe that only whites can be bigots.
In her incredibly racist book, White Fragility, Robin DiAngelo makes the self-serving argument that whites have “collective social and institutional power and privilege over people of color. People of color do not have this power and privilege over white people.” Therefore, DiAngelo concludes, people of color can’t be racist.
In fact, blacks are considered by many to be more racist than any other group. A Rasmussen poll reported that 37 percent of American adults think most black Americans are racist, while only 15 percent say the same about whites. “Anti-white racism is today a greater problem, at least in the white-collar world, than anti-black racism,” said Lynn Uzzell in RealClearPolitics. “Anti-white discrimination has become almost an institutional requirement. Schools and businesses seem fearful lest they are accused of not doing enough to stereotype, denigrate, marginalize, and suppress ‘whiteness.’”
When non-whites bash whites, according to DiAngelo’s theory, it is not actually racism. Dr. Kamau Kambon, an African-American professor at North Carolina State, told a panel at Howard University Law School that, “We have to exterminate white people off the face of the planet.” Symone Sanders, a “woman of color” and advisor to both Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden, has claimed that “we don’t need white people leading the Democratic Party.” Nikole Hannah-Jones, who created the 1619 Project for the New York Times, has alleged that, “The white race is the biggest murderer, rapist, pillager, and thief of the modern world.” If that isn’t racism, what is?
As I explain in my new book, The War on Whites: How Hating White People Became the New National Sport, these people have not been called to account for their anti-white racism. If the tables were reversed, and hateful comments like these were aimed at black people, the perpetrators would be crucified and riots would go on for weeks.
“If everyone knows that treating ethnic and racial minorities as stereotypes is disrespectful, mean-spirited and divisive,” wrote Esther Cepeda in the Washington Post, “why is it OK when it comes to whites?” It is acceptable because of the delusion that white people can’t be the object of racism.
Anti-white hate is an offshoot of the Left’s preoccupation with its perverted version of “diversity,” where Americans are divided between alleged white oppressors and victimized minorities. Oppressor and victim. “It is the old Marxist wine in new bottles,” said David Horowitz in Big Agenda, “and the results are bound to be similar.” Whites are considered morally inferior and blacks are superior because of their presumed history of oppression. Minority groups are said to need government protection because they are oppressed by the white majority.
Black economist Thomas Sowell has a penetrating observation in Wealth, Poverty and Politics that groups in all cultures exhibit resentment against those in a noticeably successful position, who must be brought down. Usually, it takes the form of a majority that resents a successful minority. But in our case, Sowell observes, the minorities that lag behind are conducting a witch hunt against the successful white majority. Under the guise of ending alleged racial oppression, an effort is being made to remake whites into the new underclass. This runs contrary to common sense, but there it is.
“Discrimination against whites is just as bad as discrimination against blacks or anyone else,” I wrote in The War on Whites. “It is time to declare that white people are victimized by racism and entitled to government protection as much as any other group.” We should be able to accommodate the rights of our minorities without depriving the majority of theirs.
