WH spox KJP violated Hatch Act with ‘mega MAGA Republicans’ smear; no disciplinary action taken

A government watchdog agency has determined that White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre violated the Hatch Act when she repeatedly referred to “mega MAGA Republicans” in the run-up to the 2022 midterms — this being a change of pace for the diversity hire, who often hides behind the Hatch Act to avoid answering questions about President Biden’s campaign activity.

In a letter shared with NBC News, the Office of Special Counsel said the president’s spokesperson violated the law intended to prevent federal employees from using their offices to influence elections when she repeatedly used the term to refer to GOP candidates, stating that this was “an inappropriate attempt to influence the vote.”

“Because Ms. Jean‐Pierre made the statements while acting in her official capacity, she violated the Hatch Act prohibition against using her official authority or influence for the purpose of interfering with or affecting the result of an election,” Ana Galindo‐Marrone, who leads the agency’s Hatch Act Unit, wrote in the letter.

At the Nov. 2 White House press briefing, the press secretary referred to “mega MAGA Republican officials” while talking about democracy being “under assault,” and made other comments disparaging Republican candidates, NBC News reported, citing the Hatch Act complaint filed by the conservative watchdog group Protect the Public’s Trust.

“Unfortunately, we have seen mega MAGA Republican officials who don’t believe in the rule of law. They refuse to accept the results of free and fair elections and they fan the flames of political violence through what they praise and what they refuse to condemn. It remains important for the President to state strongly and unequivocally that violence has no place in our democracy,” Jean-Pierre said at the time.

Galindo‐Marrone said in the letter that even though they found Jean-Pierre in violation of the law, the Office of Special Counsel “decided to close this matter without further action.”

“We have decided not to pursue disciplinary action and have instead issued Ms. Jean‐Pierre a warning letter,” she wrote, according to NBC News.

All of which justifies the skepticism seen online, given that there is little, if any accountability in Washington, D.C., particularly when it comes to the Biden administration, which is often shielded by the agenda-driven media.
