The US Virgin Islands has issued a subpoena to Elon Musk in relation to its lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase, and the Tesla CEO is not too pleased, calling the turn of events “idiotic on so many levels.”
Court filings show that the Virgin Islands is seeking documents in its quest to hold the investment bank liable for sex trafficking acts committed by Jeffrey Epstein, according to Fox Business — JPMorgan is accused of enabling recruiters of Epstein to pay victims and was “indispensable to the operation and concealment of the Epstein trafficking enterprise.”
The subpoena was issued on April 28 and the island government has not been able to track Musk down to serve it, And is asking a federal judge to serve it on Tesla Inc. instead, the business network reported. The Virgin Islands believes Epstein, a convicted sex offender, may have referred “or tried to refer” Musk to JP Morgan as a client.
Musk responded to a tweet from Unusual Whales on the development, calling Epstein a “cretin” in the process.
“This is idiotic on so many levels,” he said. ‘One: That cretin never advised me on anything whatsoever. Two: The notion that I would need or listen to financial advice from a dumb crook is absurd. ‘Three: JPM let Tesla down ten years ago, despite having Tesla’s global commercial banking business, which we then withdrew. I have never forgiven them.”

It’s not clear if Musk will comply with the subpoena, should the Virgin Islands succeed in serving the billionaire — the Caribbean island hired a private investigator.
