Miranda Devine: Biden laying foundation for pardon of son Hunter as victim of ‘political witch hunt’

As Joe Biden is finally forced to face the possibility of an indictment from the Department of Justice (DOJ) against his deeply dysfunctional son, Miranda Devine warns the president is laying the foundation for a possible pardon for Hunter should he be charged.

Appearing on “Fox & Friends Weekend” on Sunday, Devine said Biden is framing the years-long federal investigation into the first son as a “political witch hunt” and predicted the president will ultimately play the “sympathy card.”

Devine was asked to comment on Biden’s recent MSNBC interview with Stephanie Ruhle, in which he insisted, “my son has done nothing wrong” and stressed how “proud” he is of Hunter.

Devine called the president’s praise “obviously rehearsed.”

“The plan for Joe Biden is to just remove himself entirely from the influence-peddling operation that he was involved in with his son, Hunter, and his brother Jim, pretend that it has nothing to do with him and that Hunter is just being persecuted in a political witch hunt,” she explained.

“That’s probably the only way he can go considering he’s lied about his involvement since before the 2020 election,” she continued. “And it will work for him.”

Devine noted that there are still a lot of Americans who believe Biden’s “only sin is that he loves his son too much.”

The president, according to Devine, is banking on it.

“That mythology of Joe Biden that’s been around for more than four decades, which is that he’s a lovely family man… moderate Democrat, lunch pail Joe, working-class Joe, the poorest man in Congress, and a wonderful family man full of empathy because of the tragedies in his own life,” she said. “That’s what he’s playing on.”

And with that “sympathy,” Devine said, comes forgiveness.

“I think the end game is that he’s setting up… framing this sympathy card so that when it comes time, perhaps in his lame duck period, that he will pardon Hunter and Americans will forgive him because they will say, well, Hunter was a drug addict and Joe just loves his family, and he’s been through enough tragedy in his life,” she argued. “Leave him alone.”

Host Pete Hegseth pointed to a recent Axios article that claimed Hunter Biden’s attorneys are clashing with the White House over the first son’s desire to take a more offensive approach to his legal strategy.

“The tensions led Hunter — without involving the president’s top aides — to hire prominent lawyer Abbe Lowell in December, as part of a plan to take a more combative approach than the White House and Hunter’s previous lawyer had taken,” Axios reported.

The more aggressive move doesn’t surprise Devine.

“Look, I think from Hunter’s point of view, he feels he’s done nothing wrong,” she said. “Remember, in his laptop, he says he gave half to give half its money to his father, that he was basically acting as the bag man for the operation, so he just wants to save himself.”
