Eco-warriors in meltdown mode over news Biden admin will greenlight drilling project

A report that the Biden administration will soon greenlight a controversial oil drilling project on Alaska’s North Slope despite intense pressure from environmental groups has infuriated climate change zealots who are howling over the “complete betrayal” of their cause as they lash out in fury in a last-ditch effort to torpedo the project as momentum in the war against the domestic fossil fuels industry may soon encounter a major roadblock.

According to a Bloomberg News report, senior administration advisers have “signed off” on the project after weeks of deliberating and the approval of the Willow Project is set to be released next week by the U.S. Department of the Interior, citing anonymous sources who requested that their names not be made public as the announcement has yet to be made.

“Under the draft plan, ConocoPhillips would be permitted to drill from three locations across its Willow site in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, unlocking an estimated 600 million barrels of oil as well as some 280 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions tied to burning it,” the outlet reported. “ConocoPhillips originally had requested to drill from across five locations at Willow but later supported a plan with three drilling sites after pushback from regulators and some nearby residents.”

With approval of the project being a major pain point with the noisy climate cult activists whose ideology has been a dominant influence on policy since Biden put the kibosh on the Keystone XL Pipeline shortly after being sworn into office, the White House reacted to Bloomberg’s bombshell by insisting that it’s not a done deal as a mighty clamor among global warming doomsayers erupted after its Friday publication.

One climate cult howler, Democrat Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon raged against the regime on Twitter, accusing Biden of a betrayal over the government backing of the left’s extremist ideology at the expense of the domestic oil industry and America’s national security.

“If this story is right, it’s a complete betrayal of Biden’s promise not to allow more drilling and a complete catastrophe to rein in climate chaos. You can’t ask other countries to forego their fossil fuels if we keep greenlighting projects here in America,” wrote Merkley.

“50 years from now this decision may well be viewed as the knife that killed any possibility of international agreement to control runaway temperature increases with devastating consequences,” he added, seeming to crib from the infamous “stab in the back” myth to make his point.

Merkley’s fellow Senate Democrat, congressional Green New Deal kingpin Ed Markey took to Twitter with his own angry rant.

“We cannot allow the Willow Project to move forward. We must build a clean energy future—not return to a dark, fossil-fueled past. It doesn’t matter which way this oil flows, it’s the wrong direction,” wrote the Massachusetts left-winger who is still proudly wearing a face diaper in his profile pic.

“This MUST not be the case @POTUS. The Willow project is a climate disaster waiting to happen that would devastate wildlife, lands, AK communities, and our climate. We need to speed our transition to clean energy, not double-down on oil and gas,” wailed the far-left Sierra Club.

Grifting global warming gasbag Al Gore conjured his standard apocalyptic conjecture on the consequences for the planet if Biden approved Willow.

“The proposed expansion of oil and gas drilling in Alaska is recklessly irresponsible,” the former vice president told The Guardian. “The pollution it would generate will not only put Alaska native and other local communities at risk, it is incompatible with the ambition we need to achieve a net zero future.”

“We don’t need to prop up the fossil fuel industry with new, multi-year projects that are a recipe for climate chaos,” he added. “Instead, we must end the expansion of oil, gas and coal and embrace the abundant climate solutions at our fingertips.”

Radical environmentalist organization Greenpeace issued a call to action over the Bloomberg report.

While leftists threw temper tantrums, rational people put the importance of the project in perspective.

“This decision on Willow is a huge test for the Biden administration on so many issues that they claim to care about,” Republican Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska recently told Fox News Digital.  “Of course it’s critically important to Alaska, but it’s critically important to America — a project of this size when we need energy security.”

Biden’s chief spox, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that “no final decisions have been made” regarding Willow, according to Bloomberg. “Anyone who says there has been a final decision is wrong.”
