Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries sent a letter to Fox News Corporation chair Rupert Murdoch this week demanding that he silence network hosts.
Of course, that’s not how they framed their letter. They claimed they wanted Fox News to simply stop “spreading false election narratives.” But they made very little effort to identify these “false election narratives.”
Perhaps referring to the narrative that former President Donald Trump was the rightful winner of the 2020 presidential election, which hasn’t appeared on Fox News since the final days of 2020, when then-Trump was busy trying to litigate the 2020 presidential election in court, including the Supreme Court.

Schumer and Jeffries began their letter by specifically addressing the 2020 presidential election narrative that’d been promoted by Trump.
Citing a recent deposition, they wrote, “Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and other Fox News personalities knowingly, repeatedly, and dangerously endorsed and promoted the Big Lie that Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential election.”
This part, according to Murdoch himself, was true.
“Rupert Murdoch said some Fox News hosts and commentators endorsed the false narrative that the 2020 election was stolen, according to testimony in an ongoing defamation lawsuit,” The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
“Mr. Murdoch, the chair of Fox News parent Fox Corp., said Fox News and Fox Business commentators including on-air hosts Jeanine Pirro, Maria Bartiromo, Lou Dobbs and Sean Hannity, endorsed the idea of a stolen election to varying degrees, according to a deposition cited in Dominion’s brief, which was unsealed Monday.”
However, Schumer and Jeffries then began to seemingly lie.
“Though you have acknowledged your regret in allowing this grave propaganda to take place, your network hosts continue to promote, spew, and perpetuate election conspiracy theories to this day,” they alleged without citing any evidence.
Keep in mind — and this is extremely important — that to the left, just talking about voter fraud, which is a real phenomenon, makes you an election conspiracy theorist.

“The leadership of your company was aware of the dangers of broadcasting these
outlandish claims. By your own account, Donald Trump’s election lies were ‘damaging’ and ‘really crazy stuff.’ Despite that shocking admission, Fox News hosts have continued to peddle election denialism to the American people,” Schumer and Jeffries continued.
Again, they cited no evidence to back up this dubious accusation.
The pair of Democrats continued their letter by whining about House Speaker Kevin McCarthy allowing Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s team to review footage from the Jan. 6th riot.
“This [spreading false election narratives] sets a dangerous precedent that ignores basic journalistic fact-checking principles and public accountability. This is even more alarming after Speaker McCarthy is reportedly allowing Tucker Carlson to review highly sensitive security camera footage of the events surrounding the violent January 6 insurrection,” they wrote.
They concluded by demanding Carlson and other network hosts be subjected to a veritable Maoist struggle session.
“We demand that you direct Tucker Carlson and other hosts on your network to stop
spreading false election narratives and admit on the air that they were wrong to engage in such negligent behavior,” they wrote.
“As evidenced by the January 6 insurrection, spreading this false propaganda could not only embolden supporters of the Big Lie to engage in further acts of political violence, but also deeply and broadly weakens faith in our democracy and hurts our country in countless other ways,” they concluded.
The letter, not surprisingly, provoked quite the reaction from conservatives, many of whom were eager to tell Schumer and Jeffries to “piss off”:
Sorry, Chuck, you swore an oath to defend the First Amendment. You know, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press . . .

Yeah. Gotta silence Tucker Carlson because you can’t counter is statements. You call them lies but can’t confront Carlson with anything to prove his “misinformation.” Wanna silence Carlson? Publicly debate him.

Schumer and his cronies can piss off. They hate free speech and want censorship.
Fox news is the only media willing to speak and report the truth.
So for that, the pathetic Dems can piss off..— ☘️ERIC N☘♎8️⃣ (@starside8) March 2, 2023

The irony of all this is that the left’s core arch-nemesis, former President Trump, is himself no fan of Murdoch.
As previously reported, on Wednesday the former president pummeled Murdoch in a Truth Social post, ripping him into shreds for having admitted that some of the network’s hosts had erred in humoring his 2020 theory.
