‘Going into the belly of the beast’: Local GOP move to challenge NYC socialists, AOC

Cleaning up the mess in New York City is going to require a cleansing of the socialist ideology that has taken hold in Gotham, particularly in the borough of Queens, the stomping grounds of Democratic Party thought leader Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and a longtime stalwart of what was once America’s foremost metropolis is leading the way in an effort by local Republicans to restore sanity.

Curtis Sliwa, the legendary founder of the Guardian Angels, an international nonprofit organization of unarmed volunteers to prevent crime with roots in the Big Apple, issued what amounts to a declaration of war on the attention-seeking diva along with fellow Democratic socialist, New York City councilwoman Tiffany Caban, a bomb-throwing activist who describes herself as a “queer abolitionist” in her Twitter bio and who, like AOC, has the backing of Bernie Sanders, the ideological figurehead of America’s crypto-communist movement.

“We’re going into the belly of the beast of the Democratic Socialists of America in New York City,” said Sliwa, who lost the city’s 2021 mayoral race to Eric Adams, a Democrat Party apparatchik who hasn’t missed a beat since he moved into Gracie Mansion, replacing notorious Mayor Bill de Blasio who all but handed the keys to the city to marauding Black Lives Matter thugs and Antifa criminals during the 2020 George Floyd race riots.

“We’re going to take on AOC and Caban,” added Sliwa, the driving force behind the creation of the Ronald Reagan Republican Club in Astoria, an organization that will be at the tip of the spear in efforts to dislodge Ocasio-Cortez and Caban from their positions of power.

Silwa pledged that there would be GOP challengers to run against Caban later this year and Ocasio-Cortez in 2024, seeking to create an alliance with moderate Democrats who have seen their party hijacked by criminal-coddling socialist politicians who are hostile to small businesses and seek to impose higher taxes on residents.

“This is Concord and Lexington,” said the Guardian Angels founder, referring to the two famous Revolutionary War battles against King George’s Brits. “We’re talking to regular people in Astoria. They don’t support defunding the police and defunding the jails.”

The New York Post notes that the area has undergone a significant demographic shift over the last decade, opening the door for the likes of Ocasio-Cortez and Caban to capitalize politically.

“A generation ago, Astoria and Long Island City were populated by Greek and Italian immigrant homeowners and represented on the council by moderate-to-conservative Democrats Peter Vallone Sr. and Jr.,” the outlet reported. “Since the younger Vallone left office in 2013, the area’s demographics have shifted as younger, college-educated and tech-savvy residents with left-leaning views have moved into the sleek new condos that have sprung up across the area.”

Ocasio-Cortez in particular symbolizes the new breed of socialists, rocketing to media superstardom in a modern-day Cinderella story when the former bartender sprung a shocking political upset on longtime Congressman Joe Crowley in 2018, a seismic event that launched the “Squad” leader’s career, making her arguably the most influential force in the current incarnation of the fully radicalized Democratic Party.

Caban has been described as “poison” and Ocasio-Cortez as “clueless” by Marie Lynch, another leader of the Astoria Republican club.

“We have to be the alternative to all the craziness. Let the police do their jobs. Don’t defund the police,” she said.

Some have expressed skepticism that the GOP can make significant inroads given the hardcore socialist inclinations of voters in the area.

“Astoria and Western Queens is ground zero for the DSA and the AOC crowd. They keep winning races and defeating centrists,” political consultant Hank Sheinkopf said, according to the New York Post. “It’s hard to see Republicans winning there.

“These new residents have new ideas — being Republican isn’t one of them,” he added.
