Fox Business Network host Stuart Varney had nothing but praise for President Joe Biden’s “surprise” visit to Ukraine Monday, describing the seemingly orchestrated bravado as “highly symbolic.”
“This could be a game changer,” he began.

During the “My Take” segment of “Varney & Co.” the commentator picked up precisely what the White House was putting down in portraying the president as a commanding presence in foreign policy, producing a paint-by-numbers image in line with the “unwavering and unflagging” support of the administration’s adopted 51st state.
“President Biden makes a surprise visit to Ukraine. It was a very well-kept secret. He took a train from the Polish border to Kyiv and even as air raid sirens were sounding,” Varney dramatically recounted, “he was meeting with President Zelensky and then walking the streets in a war zone. Highly symbolic. The president said he wants to leave no doubt about America’s support and, quote, ‘for as long as it takes.’ Those are his words.”
Of course, the host’s take preceded a report from CNN’s Alex Marquardt that suggested a bit of theatrics might have been at play as, according to him, “I’ve been here for the past five days. I have not heard any explosions. I have not heard any air sirens, until about half an hour ago, right when President Biden was in the center of Kyiv.”
As previously reported, no one appeared concerned about the warning system blaring despite the purported threat to the leader of the free world.
“The timing here is crucial,” Varney went on. “The president suddenly pops up. He suddenly appears in a foreign capital that is under attack. He is sticking it to Putin one year after Russia invaded.”
However, as was later revealed, Biden’s “sticking it to” Russian President Vladimir Putin did not come without first notifying the Russians that the photo op was taking place. As White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan put it, “We did notify the Russians that President Biden would be traveling to Kyiv. We did so some hours before his departure for deconfliction purposes.”

“The Russians are preparing a big push. Ukrainians want more advanced weapons to push back. That’s what this visit is all about,” Varney continued of the trip that included Biden pledging even more aid at a cost of half a billion dollars. “What will we let ’em have? F-16s? Long-range missiles? The Republicans are not entirely on board on this and I wonder about far-left Democrats as well. President Biden has made a bold move.”
“Alright, now comes the pushback,” the host went on moving past the production to its consequences. “China has implied it would help Russia’s military. The tiny republic of Moldova appears to be Putin’s next target. Vice President Harris says Russia has committed crimes against humanity. The world seems to be realigning. Russia, China, Iran versus America and Europe.”
After almost dismissively suggesting another World War could be on the horizon, Varney closed his take seemingly encouraging it rather than making an attempt at de-escalation.
“One year ago, Western intelligence agencies offered Zelensky a ride out. Russia had started its invasion and was expected to take Kyiv within a week. Zelensky said, no, I’m staying. Just give me bullets,” he said. “He’s still there. My opinion. Give him what he wants. Let Ukraine win. That’s my opinion.”
