Rand Paul moves to strip federal funding from healthcare providers who refuse critical care to unvaxxed patients

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul and Rep. Dan Bishop have introduced legislation in each chamber of Congress that would strip federal funding from healthcare providers that have denied care to unvaccinated patients.

“No American should be denied access to critical care based on a personal medical decision, yet tragically, many hospitals and other medical facilities continue to discriminate against those unvaccinated for COVID-19,” Sen. Paul said in a statement.

“The COVID-19 Vaccination Non-Discrimination Act will protect the rights of vulnerable patients to make their own health care choices and ensure that federal taxpayer dollars do not support facilities that turn away patients based on their COVID-19 vaccination status,” he added.

“There’s no reason that medical facilities should deny care to people based on their COVID-19 vaccination status, and there’s certainly no reason for institutions that do so to receive any federal funding,” Rep. Bishop, who introduced the same legislation in the House, added in his own statement.

The bill was inspired by cases like that of Yulia Hicks, a 14-year-old North Carolina girl with natural immunity who was denied a kidney transplant by Duke University Hospital because of her unvaccinated status.

“I said, ‘So basically, you’re telling us if she does not get the vaccine, then she’s not getting a transplant.’ And [the medical employee] said, ‘Yes, that is the one thing that is holding us up,'” Hicks’ mother, Chrissy, recalled to Fox News in December.

The bill was also inspired by cases like that of DJ Ferguson, 31, who was denied a heart transplant last year because he’d refused the COVID vaccine on “basic principles.”

“David Ferguson Jr., or DJ, has been hospitalized since November with a genetic heart condition that has put him at risk of heart failure, a fundraising page set up to support his family said,” The Republican reported in January of 2022.

“Now admitted at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Ferguson is ineligible to receive a heart transplant due to his vaccination status. But he has for several weeks declined to take the shot, claiming it is against his principles,” the outlet added.

This particular case prompted protests in Boston.

“On Sunday, some protestors held signs and flags bearing messages such as ‘Say no to forced vaccines,’ ‘No vax mandate,’ and ‘Don’t tread on me.’ … Rayla Campbell, a Massachusetts secretary of state candidate, led the group in chants of ‘my body, my choice.’ Ferguson appeared in a window during the protest, drawing a cheer from the crowd below him,” according to The Republican.

In separate but related news, Dr. Anthony Fauci’s friend, EcoHealth Alliance boss Dr. Peter Daszak, is back in the spotlight.

As previously reported, Daszak went viral two years ago when emails between him and Fauci were publicly released.

Written in the spring of 2020, the emails showed Daszak thanking Fauci for downplaying the coronavirus lab leak theory, which posits that the virus most likely emerged from an accidental leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Daszak cared deeply about this issue because he himself is tied to the institute. In fact, much of EcoHealth’s prior grant money has reportedly been funneled directly to the institute.

The guy’s back in the news now for retweeting the following from Dr. Angela Rasmussen:

This week the World Health Organization quietly aborted a probe into the origins of the COVID pandemic, and according to Rasmussen, the reason why is because of those who’ve had the courage to talk about the lab leak theory.

The theory, she argues, is essentially mean to China, and so on account of allegedly being mistreated, the Chinese have evidently decided to not cooperate with the WHO’s investigators. And so, according to Rasmussen and Daszak, anyone who humored the lab leak theory is to blame.

Never mind that the lab leak theory may very well be legitimate. All that appears to matter to the likes of Daszak and his allies is whether the theory offends China …
