‘The View’ co-hosts bicker over Biden’s cancelled interview with Fox News

The co-hosts of “The View” discussed on Friday whether President Joe Biden should or shouldn’t sit down with Fox Soul for a Super Bowl interview.

The discussion was prompted by reports that the White House had scheduled such an interview. However, the interview has reportedly since been canceled.

“So the game airs on Fox this year. So that’s the problem. So he would be interviewed by a Fox News journalist — Brett Baier or somebody like that. It would give Biden the chance to get his message out to a huge, huge audience. So the question is, should he do it?” co-host Joy Behar asked, kicking off the discussion.

“You know, there is the issue of they still say that he didn’t really win the election, those people over there at Fox. They keep saying he’s a liar, when they’re the liars. Why would he go over there?” she added.

To be clear, nobody currently on Fox News is saying that President Biden lost the 2020 presidential election. And as for lying, it’s the president who keeps falsely claiming that his oldest son, Beau, died while fighting in Iraq.

Co-host Sunny Hostin responded to Behar’s question by accusing Fox News of spreading so-called “misinformation.”

“I don’t think he should. … This pre-game interview would only get about 20 million viewers. I think he got something like 27.3 for the State of the Union. So people have seen him, they’ve heard him, and I don’t think you normalize the misinformation network,” she said without any self-awareness.

“I have trouble believing that he should sit down even with a Shannon Breen (sic) or even with a Brett Baier because the bottom line is they work for a network that puts forth conspiracy theories. They’re election deniers. … I mean, this is just constant. And basically, Fox viewers are more willing to embrace conspiracy theories. Does anyone disagree?” she added.

The show’s ostensible resident Republican, Alyssa Farah Griffin, then swooped in with a rebuttal.

“I totally disagree on this one. I think the biggest thing wrong with our politics right now is people exist in their echo chambers. So a lot of Fox viewers don’t even hear about things that Biden might have talked about on other networks. I think he ran saying he wants to be a president for all Americans. That includes Republicans. He should talk to them,” she said.

“And by the way, I’ve negotiated these interviews for presidents and VPs prior. You can request certain anchors. Fox has some serious journalists. … Brett Baier has interviewed Obama. He’s interviewed, you know, prior presidents. I think it’s a good time to be a president for all Americans,” she added.

Keep in mind the president’s campaign rhetoric has not in any way, shape, or form matched his presidential actions and rhetoric.

Co-host Sara Haines wasn’t entirely convinced by Griffin’s argument.

“I totally agree with what Alyssa is saying that there are real journalists and you have to go where people are regardless of who those people are and take a chance. If they’re shopping in conspiracy theories, call them out in real time,” she said.

“But if I were strategically advising him, I would say on the heels of such a great state of the union, you know, those moments they had, and all the talk the next day, that there’s there’s more to lose than gain if you were to get into a weird back and forth,” she added.

The “great” SOTU address hit record-low ratings.

“An estimated 27.3 million people watched President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on television, the second smallest audience for the annual event in at least 30 years,” NBC News reported.

“It was also down nearly 28% from the 38.2 million people who saw Biden’s address in 2022. The only smaller audience since 1993 was the 26.9 million who watched Biden’s address to Congress in 2021 — not officially a State of the Union speech, since he had just taken office a few months earlier. That speech was delivered on the unusually late date of April 28,” the site added.

The discussion concluded with Griffin noting that Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg appears on Fox News quite frequently and that it’s been “very helpful” for him.

Hostin agreed, but only so that she could throw more shade at Fox News.

“He’s so much smarter than all of them, so it’s easy for him,” she said.

So smart indeed …

As for the president’s Fox Soul interview, it’s reportedly been canceled, but it’s unclear by whom. All that’s known is that the White House says Fox Soul canceled it, but Fox Soul says the White House canceled it.

“As we said earlier, we had arranged an interview with Fox Sports Host Mike Hill & Vivica A. Fox with the President ahead of the Super Bowl and Fox Corp had the interview cancelled,” a White House spokesperson said. “FOX has since put out a statement indicating the interview was rescheduled, which is inaccurate.”
