DeSantis haters twist AP fact check on menstrual cycle claim to dishonestly smear popular governor

If some people think liberalism is synonymous with dishonesty, THIS is probably the reason why.

Remember Nina Turner? She served as co-chair of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign.

On Saturday, Turner posted a dishonest tweet essentially accusing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis of mulling “mandating menstrual cycle details for female athletes.”

Look:

The screenshot of an Associated Press story was accurate.

What was grossly dishonest was the suggestion the DeSantis has anything to do with this potential decision.

In fact, the AP story that Turner screenshotted — but did not actually link to — turns out to have been a fact-check explaining this.

“CLAIM: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is requiring all female student-athletes in the state to provide detailed information about their periods in order to compete in organized sports,” the fact-check reads.

“AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. The Florida High School Athletic Association is weighing the recommendation from an advisory committee, but no final decision has been made. DeSantis’ education commissioner is a member of the association’s board of directors and the commissioner also appoints three others, but the association is a private nonprofit organization, not a state agency under the purview of the governor’s office,” the fact-check continues.

But there’s more.

According to the AP, Florida already “asks female high school athletes to provide information about their menstrual cycle on health forms required to participate in sports.” The only difference is that it’s currently not mandatory.

Moreover, making it mandatory is “consistent with national guidelines for sports physicals developed by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Sports Medicine and other groups.”

Given all this, critics were quick to bash the living hell out of Turner for her blatant dishonesty:

Note what one critic wrote: “Lmao your followers love clickbait tweets.”

Fact-check: TRUE.

Over 50,000 hysterical, raging leftists liked her post.

And of the nearly 2,000 people who commented on her post, a large chunk were leftists shrieking about DeSantis’ alleged fascist ways.

Look (*Language warning):

But if DeSantis is a fascist, so are plenty of other governors, according to an investigation by Outsports.

“[T]he Sunshine State is only one of dozens of states to suggest or require asking these questions of female high school athletes before they can compete,” the sports site reported Friday.

“Outsports has reviewed the websites of the high school sports associations and Departments of Education of all 50 states. At least 88% of the states include some form of pre-participation medical evaluation that requests or requires asking female athletes about their ‘menstrual period,’ or similar questions,” the site added.

Evidently, America is awash in fascist governors, including Democrat ones like California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Indeed, according to Outsports, California asks the following questions of its female student athletes:

  • “Have you ever had a menstrual period?”
  • “How old were you when you had your first menstrual period?”
  • “How many periods have you had in the last 12 months?”
  • “When was your most recent menstrual period?”

But if you think that’s bad, just wait.

“Among other states, Massachusetts does currently suggest an examination of ‘genitalia.’ Other states also suggest genital examinations, some of them like Oklahoma and Michigan singling that out for ‘males only,’ or like New York asking if male athletes ‘have only one testicle,'” Outsports notes.

Oh my @ all the “fascism!”
