Trump sounds off about ‘great act of disloyalty’ amid reports DeSantis advisers preparing for 2024 run

If Republican “insiders” are correct, the race for the White House is about to get a lot more interesting.

Two Republicans “with knowledge of the conversations” have told The Washington Post that advisers to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are actively gearing up for a possible face-off with former President Donald Trump to lead the nation.

One of the Republican sources said the wildly popular governor’s political team has already scanned early primary states such as New Hampshire and Iowa and noted multiple potential hires. “Experienced operatives” have reportedly voiced their interest.

“This Republican also said that Phil Cox and Generra Peck — two key members of DeSantis’s 2022 reelection team — are involved in ongoing talks about 2024,” WaPo reports.

The second anonymous Republican revealed that DeSantis advisers recently gathered to discuss the 2024 election.

Though the governor has yet to officially announce his candidacy, his fearless, offensive stand against woke ideology in Florida has effectively shifted the support of many MAGA Republicans away from Trump.

While Trump has been mired in investigations and forced to defend himself against a never-ending flow of accusations, DeSantis has been implementing meaningful change in the Sunshine State on issues average Americans truly care about — from parental rights in schools to criminal justice policies to the crisis on the border.

Perhaps the most contentious issue in the minds of many conservatives is the COVID-19 vaccine.

As more and more information emerges about the deadly side effects of the jab, a large number of Trump supporters want to hear some sense of contrition from the former president, who continues to brag about his role in pushing the experimental vax on Americans at “Warp Speed.”

In contrast, DeSantis is going after the CDC on behalf of all Floridians.

Rather than take a moment for some self-awareness, Trump came out swinging at DeSantis following his Saturday South Carolina speech  — a tactic that hasn’t always gone over well for him in the past.

Speaking to The Associated Press, Trump said if DeSantis does run against him, it would be “a great act of disloyalty.”

“If he runs, that’s fine. I’m way up in the polls,” he said, with his usual bravado. “He’s going to have to do what he wants to do, but he may run. I do think it would be a great act of disloyalty because, you know, I got him in. He had no chance. His political life was over.”

According to the AP, Trump “hasn’t spoken to DeSantis in a long time.”

“Ron would have not been governor if it weren’t for me,” Trump said in a video from CNN. “And that’s okay.”

“It’s not about loyalty,” he said. “But to me, it is. It’s always about loyalty. But, for a lot of people, it’s not about loyalty.”

On Twitter, Trump seems to be walking a fine line with some, who suggest that the former president’s supporters may need to make a decision about their priorities.

“I personally think DeSantis will run, at least I hope so,” tweeted one user. “If he thinks he would be a better president, that is not disloyal to Trump, rather loyal to America.”

“Trump has two camps supporting him: America First and Trump First,” the user continued. “I think his supporters need to decide which they are.”
