New Zealand’s top air carrier reacted to a claim by Prince Harry in his new book that his wife, actress Meghan Markle, had booked a first-class flight for her father on one of its planes in order to help him avoid being badgered by the press, jabbing the Royal couple on Twitter as other users joined in on the fun.
According to the emasculated 38-year-old Brit, the Duchess of Sussex purchased an Air New Zealand ticket from Mexico to England for Thomas Markle so that he could dodge media harassment for his trip across the pond for the couple’s 2018 wedding, an extravaganza that drew international attention to the celebrity-laden event.
“We told him, leave Mexico right now: A whole new level of harassment is about to rain down on you, so come to Britain. Now,” wrote Markle’s submissive hubby in his best-selling memoir “Spare” which hit bookshelves this week.
“Air New Zealand, first class, booked and paid for by Meg,” he said, a sloppy mistake that was quickly debunked by the carrier.
“We’ve never had flights between Mexico and the UK. And we only have business premier,” an airline spokesperson told The New Zealand Herald on Thursday, puncturing the haughty prince’s balloon.
The airline also had some fun at the Royal couple’s expense in a cheeky Twitter post.
“Introducing #SussexClass Apparently coming soon,” tweeted Air New Zealand, adding a crown emoji to mock the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Well said! And well deserved. People that make things up shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it over and over! Poor Queen Elizabeth and now King Charles. Fancy your own family selling you out for cash!!

But when it comes to the Royals and especially Harry and Meghan, there is a devout cult-like legion of followers, some of whom found nothing funny about New Zealand Airlines’ attempt at humor.
The desperation to make Prince Harry and Meghan out as liars by Desperates always end up with egg on the face of the Desperates. Here we have @FlyAirNZ trying to make Harry out to be a liar from statements in #Spare about Air New Zealand’s 2018 flights from L.A. to London. https://t.co/mTnryQ5iBP

How unprofessional

How petty – maybe @FlyAirNZ should focus on its service. Fly on time and deliver passengers’ bags?
— Wayne McNee (@WayneMcNee) January 13, 2023
Bad form air nz. Someone in the social media team clearly isn’t a harry fan and though the whole customer base would find this funny.
— Katherine Hogg (@Katherine01292) January 12, 2023
This is appalling.

New Zealand being on my holiday list this year bet I know which flight comp never ever to use or consider. Good to know you have terrible customer service and will just avoid you all together
