Friendly fire! Ohio Dem torches Buttigieg for airline cancelations: ‘Prime example of failing up’

While Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Pete Buttigieg attempted to deflect the blame for thousands of flights being canceled during the busiest time of year, former Ohio Congressional candidate Nina Turner blasted him for incompetence and as a “prime example of failing up.”

Turner made it painfully obvious that she feels the sitting Cabinet member is unqualified for his position in the Biden administration.

“What’s happening with the railroads, airlines & the supply chain is a result of a small city mayor being made the Secretary of Transportation as a means to pad his resume for President. Secretary Buttigeig (sic) is a prime example of failing up,” she caustically tweeted on Tuesday, engaging in friendly fire against a fellow traveler while notably misspelling his name.

She went on to point out that she’s had issues with Buttigieg for a long time now.

“And before anyone accuses me of calling him out after the fact—no. I’ve been calling on @PeteButtigieg to take on these airlines all year,” she added.

One person on Twitter responded, “The airline industry has been plagued with bad customer service for a long time. This isn’t a new problem, respectfully.”

Turner clapped back with fire, “Correct, it has been a problem that Secretary Buttigeig should’ve addressed long ago…”

The Ohio Democrat’s comments are timely as Buttigieg is trying to cover his own posterior while he calls for Southwest Airlines to be held accountable for canceling approximately 2,700 of the more than 3,200 flights that all airlines canceled on Tuesday, which is approximately 84% according to CNN.

The media outlet is referring to the mass cancelations as a “meltdown” that failed on a number of levels during a bomb cyclone that coincided with some of the busiest travel dates of the year.

“Their system really has completely melted down,” Buttigieg told CNN host Wolf Blitzer.

“I made clear that our department will be holding them accountable for their responsibilities to customers, both to get them through this situation and to make sure that this can’t happen again,” he bloviated.

As the CEO of the airline apologized and took responsibility on air, passengers were furious after being stranded due to the cancelations. Many assert that Southwest’s website, app, and overall customer service were nonexistent during weather that was forecast well in advance.

“I conveyed to the CEO our expectation that they going to go above and beyond to take care of passengers and to address this,” he stated, according to CNN.

Buttigieg is vowing to make Southwest literally pay for the chaos.

Buttigieg went on to tell CNN that the Department of Transportation is prepared to pursue fines against Southwest if there is evidence that the company failed to meet its legal obligations. He also threatened that the department will be taking a closer look at consistent customer service problems at the airline.

“While all of the other parts of the aviation system have been moving toward recovery and getting better each day, it’s actually been moving the opposite direction with this airline,” the transportation secretary pointed out.

“You’ve got a company here that’s got a lot of cleaning up to do,” he chastised.

While Buttigieg is busy blasting Southwest Airlines, it’s good to note that the DOT in February laid out its plan to strengthen the supply chain in an effort to revitalize the U.S. economy. A report published last week found that supply chain problems were expected to last through the next two years, “at least.”

Turner called out Buttigieg in 2019 as well when she was co-chairing Sen. Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign and the now-transportation secretary was running for the Democratic presidential nomination. She accused the then-mayor of South Bend, Indiana, of “taking the black community for granted,” in an interview with HuffPost.

A few months later, one of Buttigieg’s campaign surrogates claimed in a deleted tweet that Turner needed “muzzling.”

Turner is a former state senator and city council member in Cleveland, Ohio. She lost her bid for Congress for the second time in a Democratic primary election in May.
