In the latest development in the story of Sam Bankman-Fried, the disgraced cofounder and CEO of bankrupt crypto trading exchange FTX was arrested in the Bahamas on Monday and Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez expressed her dismay in an uncharacteristically bland reaction to the news.
On the day before he was scheduled to testify to Congress over his role in the implosion of the exchange in which investors were fleeced out of billions, Bahamian authorities moved to make the high-profile pinch, acting on a sealed indictment issued by prosecutors in the Southern District of New York, with CNBC confirming that the charges include “wire fraud, wire fraud conspiracy, securities fraud, securities fraud conspiracy and money laundering.”
Bankman-Fried, who was expected to testify to Congress remotely, has been removed from the witness list, depriving lawmakers of the opportunity to grandstand or, in the case of Democrats, run interference for their second-largest donor during the just-completed midterm election cycle and the socialist diva took to Twitter to express her disappointment.
“Bankman-Fried was set to testify before the House tomorrow. Tonight he was arrested,” AOC wrote. “While I am disappointed we will not have the opportunity to present our line of questioning, we look forward to more information coming to light and justice being served in this case.”

Reactions poured in over what some Twitter users felt was mysteriously convenient timing considering SBF’s flurry of recent media appearances.
Interesting timing, don’t you think. Arrested right before testifying in front of possible recipients of his financial donations. https://t.co/mXHHQVa1lw

He was arrested at the direction of your Administration precisely so he couldn’t testify is the only reason not to wait 24 hours to let him incriminate himself. https://t.co/JK1izI2iUk

Be transparent. Did you get other people’s money from him? Waiting for list of Dems who got campaign donations from https://t.co/jlMosaZ1Dh @elonmusk asked “Where did the money go?” https://t.co/mbTGSTjC6W

Have you given back any of the $ he gave you?

He would have spilled all the beans. Of course he was arrested.

He’s been on a press tour and doing paid speaking gigs and they arrested him the day before he was supposed to testify before the House?

Like the Epstein case, and unlike the Mar A Lago investigation, he’s a Dem financier. There will be no leaks, hence no information until his case is settled for 2 yrs probation and 18 mos. community service.

I’ll say it : Bahamas AG had more than a month to lock him up and never did. Why are they choosing to do so a day prior the hearing?

Your sheep may think the timing is a coincidence but we know better. Democrats don’t want the truth to come out, you need time to teach him the script https://t.co/F35CzplYx1

Rep. Maxine Waters, the House Financial Services Committee chairwoman said that she was “surprised” that SBF was hauled in on the day before his scheduled testimony.

“I am surprised to hear that Sam Bankman-Fried was arrested in the Bahamas at the direction of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York,” the octogenarian California Democrat said in a statement. “It’s about time the process to bring Mr. Bankman-Fried to justice has begun. However, as the public knows, my staff and I have been working diligently for the past month to secure Mr. Bankman-Fried’s testimony before our Committee tomorrow morning.”
“We received confirmation this afternoon from Mr. Bankman-Fried and his lawyers that he was still planning to appear before the Committee tomorrow, but then he was arrested,” Waters said in the Monday statement.
