Ex-Twitter official painted a victim by media after he flees home following troubling thesis about children

Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover and subsequent release of the “Twitter Files” has continued to shine a light on the connections between the government, corporate media, and Big Tech in controlling the flow of information, so naturally, those who’ve been named like the former Twitter head of Trust and Safety have resorted to victimhood.

Though Musk initially had positive things to say about Roth, the billionaire’s tune has changed dramatically with each new revelation. Now, after concerns over the former executive seemingly promoting avenues for pedophilia have mounted, Roth, 34, and his boyfriend, 44-year-old Nicholas Madsen, have reportedly been driven from their home because of threats to their safety.

On Monday, The Washington Post reported: “Yoel Roth, Twitter’s former head of trust and safety, and his family were forced from their home after Elon Musk’s tweets misrepresented Roth’s academic writing about sexual activity and children. The online mob also sent threats to people Roth had replied to on Twitter, forcing some of Roth’s family and friends to delete their Twitter accounts, according to a person familiar with Roth’s situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to concerns about Roth’s safety.”

As it happened, Musk initially reacted Saturday to a retweet from Eliza Bleu, a human trafficking survivor advocate, who has been outspoken on the platform about efforts to rid Twitter of exploitive materials and child pornography. She shared a post of Roth’s from 2010 where he asked, “Can high school students ever meaningfully consent to sex with their teachers?”

“This,” Musk replied, “explains a lot.”

The Chief Twit followed that up with a screenshot of a portion of Roth’s Ph.D. thesis where it was written, “Even with the service’s extensive content management, Grindr may well be too lewd or too hook-up-oriented to be a safe and age-appropriate resource for teenagers; but the fact that people under 18 are on these services already indicates that we can’t readily dismiss these platforms out of hand as loci for queer youth culture.”

“Rather than merely trying to absolve themselves of legal responsibility or, worse,” Roth continued, “trying to drive out teenagers entirely, service providers should instead focus on crafting safety strategies that can accommodate a wide variety of use cases for platforms like Grindr–including, possibly, their role in safely connecting queer young adults.”

As Musk put it, “Looks like Yoel is arguing in favor of children being able to access adult Internet services in his PhD thesis.”

Since that time, the remaining “Twitter Files” pertaining to Roth’s direct and regular communications with federal agencies like the FBI and his involvement in the decision to permanently ban then-President Donald Trump from the platform have been released and, as far as outlets like CNN are concerned, they were the only noteworthy points on Roth’s departure from his home.

“Twitter’s former head of trust and safety has fled his home due to an escalation in threats resulting from Elon Musk’s campaign of criticism against him,” the outlet reported with a headline that said it was “due to threats amid ‘Twitter Files’ release.”

At no point in the article were concerns over the former “Trust and Safety” executive’s perverse writings brought up.

Journalist Andy Ngô reacted to the developing story on Twitter and wrote, “The PR tactic for the ex-Twitter Trust & Safety head (Yoel Roth) in response to revelations he led the suppression of conservative figures & speech, is to paint himself as a victim. He has already sent his contacts to reach out to to the liberal press about him leaving his home.”

Roth wasn’t alone in exercising this tactic as Dr. Anthony Fauci, who is expected to feature prominently in upcoming “Twitter Files” releases, also reacted to recent posts from Musk focusing on him by saying his safety is at risk. “Of course it’s at risk, that’s why I have armed federal agents with me all the time,” he told Nature.
