‘An insult’ to Angelenos: LA DA Gascon takes ‘urgent interest’ in attempted theft of fanboy John Legend’s Porsche

Los Angeles County’s uber-progressive District Attorney George Gascon is in the hot seat once again, this time for taking a special interest in the case of celebrity John Legend — a known supporter of the DA — and his Porsche, which was nearly stolen this week.

Legend had reportedly parked his luxury car outside a Los Angeles recording studio on Monday. While he was inside, LAPD told TMZ, a man simply “walked up to the vehicle, opened the door and hopped in.”

While the would-be thief was allegedly looking for either keys to the vehicle or another way to hot wire it, security at the recording studio, who saw the scene on surveillance cameras, called the police before confronting him. After telling officers it was his Porsche, the man got out of the vehicle and walked away. After a short foot chase, police caught up to the suspect and arrested him on suspicion of grand theft auto.

It all seems pretty routine for life in Hollyweird, but in this instance, the DA’s acting head deputy, John Harlan, emailed prosecutors, telling them that they should keep him in the loop on this case, according to Fox News.

The “Be On the Lookout” or “BOLO” from Harlan read, “News outlets are reporting that an unnamed person was arrested for attempting to steal John Legend’s Porsche somewhere in Los Angeles — case potentially due today. Please be on the lookout for this case.”

According to Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin, Legend is “one of Gascon‘s top celebrity supporters.”

“Critics in the office call this blatant special treatment,” he added.

“An attempted vehicle theft is a crime which George Gascon barely seems interested in prosecuting,” Deputy District Attorney John Lewin told Fox News Digital.

“The idea that a highly senior administrator would be putting out an all-points bulletin to watch out for this case smacks of special access and undue influence,” he continued. “To have this kind of action taken is offensive and is an insult to every law-abiding citizen in Los Angeles who is a victim of crime and who is generally met with a lack of interest or outright hostility by this district attorney and his administration.”

Gascon’s questionable priorities and progressive policies have long been making national headlines.

In September, Gascon was blasted for giving a teen with a violent record just five to seven months in a juvenile probation camp after he confessed to mowing down a mother and her 8-month-old baby in a stolen car.

While the child somehow miraculously survived the incident without serious injury, the mother called the hit-and-run attempted murder and accused Gascon of trivializing the matter.

Before that, he handed an adult transgender pedophile a two-year sentence in a girl’s juvenile facility after he pled guilty to the molestation of a 10-year-old girl prior to his turning 18.

James Tubbs, who identified as “Hannah” by the time he confessed, was later charged with first-degree murder in connection with a 2019 robbery.

But Gascon’s office defended the DA’s interest in Legend’s case.

“It is the routine practice for the Head Deputy of the Charge Evaluation Division to seek information on all cases generating media interest,” the office said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Emails such as these are issued pursuant to our media policy and sent, almost on a daily basis, especially where suspect identity is unknown.”

“This helps ensure that the office is better prepared to promptly respond to inquiries regarding cases that are of interest to the public,” the statement continued. “This matter was treated the same way any media case is treated by the filing unit.”

Lewin doesn’t buy it.

“In essence, it appears that the acting head deputy involved put out an all-points bulletin to be on the lookout for this case as if he was tracking the Hillside Stranger,” he said.

For his part, Legend is a big Gascon fan — a point he made clear on Twitter in 2020.

“George Gascón, our new DA in Los Angeles, just announced some major reforms on his first day. Proud to have supported his election,” the singer tweeted when Gascon took office. “This is the kind of change we voted for and the kind of change we need to bring our system closer to true justice.”
