Musk mocks ‘expert in misinformation’ outlet AP: ‘Who are these ‘online experts’ you speak of?’

Billionaire Elon Musk served up amnesty for Thanksgiving after Twitter users overwhelmingly voted in favor of restoring banned accounts to the platform, setting off howls of fury from leftists and the corrupt media who are furious at seeing their censorship efforts undone by the new owner.

One of those angrily reacting to the lifting of the free speech restrictions was the Associated Press, an outlet that nearly started World War III last week with its blatantly false story about a Russian missile hitting NATO ally Poland.

In a typically hysterical screed, AP claimed that “online safety experts” predict that the return of the previously banned voices will “spur a rise in harassment, hate speech and misinformation,” while bemoaning the world’s richest man’s introduction of democracy in the digital town square.

“AP is such an expert in misinformation. Twitter couldn’t hope to compete!” Musk wrote in response to the Associated Press story.

In another tweet, the new “Chief Twit” remarked on AP’s citing of  “groups that monitor the platform for racist, anti-Semitic and other toxic speech” as the basis for its hit piece.

“But you have piqued my curiosity … who are these ‘online experts’ you speak of?” Musk asked.

The poll that has infuriated AP and others drew over 3 million responses to the yes or no question, “Should Twitter offer a general amnesty to suspended accounts, provided that they have not broken the law or engaged in egregious spam?”

When voting closed on Thursday, amnesty for the censored won out 72.4 to 27.6 percent.

“The people have spoken,” wrote Musk, announcing that “Amnesty begins next week.”

“Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” he added, a Latin phrase that means “the voice of the people, the voice of God,” the same words he used after Twitter users voted to restore former President Donald J. Trump’s account in another poll.

“Such online polls are anything but scientific and can easily be influenced by bots,” huffed AP.

According to the outlet, “In the month since Musk took over Twitter, groups that monitor the platform for racist, anti-Semitic and other toxic speech say it’s been on the rise on the world’s de facto public square. That has included a surge in racist abuse of World Cup soccer players that Twitter is allegedly failing to act on.”

The story also went on whine about Musk’s layoff of thousands of “woke” Twitter employees, his early moves to level the playing field and the restoring of the account of Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene who “was banned in January for violating the platform’s COVID misinformation policies.”

Twitter users also posted their thoughts about AP’s accusations against Musk.

In just a few short weeks, Musk has put his stamp on Twitter, and the idea that it will once again be a place that welcomes an exchange of ideas is greatly troubling to those who are dependent on a rigged game.
