Tulsi Gabbard lands offical gig with Fox News

Tulsi Gabbard’s role at Fox News keeps increasing.

In August, while still a Democrat, she guest-hosted for one of the most conservative shows on television, “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” It surprised a lot of viewers. But she must have done well enough because she landed that gig again Monday night.

In October, the well-spoken 41-year-old former Democratic Representative from staunchly liberal Hawaii left the party that had been her home during her 8 years in Congress (2013-2021). She did not declare membership in the Republican Party. Dissatisfied with both parties, Gabbard identifies as an Independent.

On Monday, before hosting Carlson’s primetime show, it was announced that Gabbard had officially joined Fox News as a contributor.

“A representative for the conservative-leaning cable channel confirmed Gabbard signed a deal Monday and will start appearing on its programs next week,” announced the Los Angeles Times.

Most of the reactions on Twitter seemed to be from the left, with people spouting over-the-top insults, most of which we would not post here. Sanitary posts included, “I’m sure you’ll make mother Russia proud”, “You’re such a disgrace to humanity”, “That’s a hard pass for me”, and “That cesspool is the perfect place for you.”

Mostly, though, it wasn’t a giant surprise.

Gabbard does not seem to be an ideological conservative, but then a lot of Fox News employees likely aren’t conservatives. Nevertheless, on important issues such as the war in Ukraine, Big Tech censorship, and woke gender ideology, she finds herself in a principled position on the right.

When she left the Democratic Party, she had this to say in support of her decision:

I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoke anti-white racism, who actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms enshrined in our Constitution, and who are hostile to people of faith and spirituality, who demonize the police, who protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, who believe in open borders, who weaponize the national security state to go after political opponents, and above all, dragging us ever closer to nuclear war.

Gabbard started her political career as a member of the Hawaii House of Representatives in 2002, but she only served there for one term. Because in April 2003, she enlisted in the Hawaii Army National Guard. In July 2004, she was deployed for a 12-month tour in Iraq as a Medical Company specialist in the 29th Support Battalion.

October was a big month for Gabbard. Not only did she leave the Democratic Party, but she also launched a podcast. On her website, she gives herself the byline, “Honest. Independent. Unafraid. Always with Aloha.”

Fox News has had a role in moving other commentators to the right. Former Los Angeles president of the National Organization for Women, Tammy Bruce, and civil rights attorney Leo Terrell both became conservatives after having significant careers as outspoken leftists.

Who’s next, Harold Ford Jr? Geraldo Rivera? Juan Williams?
