The Left, perhaps finally realizing that their two-year effort to make January 6 a rallying cry against the GOP has failed, has fashioned a last-ditch bogeyman. The 1/6-style microscope is now trained on the vicious attack on Paul Pelosi.

In that vein, former Senior Intelligence Service officer at the CIA Marc Polymeropoulos wants to direct the intelligence community’s attention to domestic terrorists. An NBC website published a piece from the retired spook, which argues for more aggressive measures against ideologues “in the right-wing ecosphere” in the wake of the attack on Paul Pelosi.

“I worked in counterterrorism operations for nearly my entire career at the CIA before retiring in 2019. The battle we engaged in with international terrorist groups like Al Qaeda wasn’t just with their legions of foot soldiers but with their highly effective propaganda arms as well,” he wrote. “The U.S. and our allies considered those propagandists fundamental cogs in a terror group’s machinery, and just as culpable as any other terrorist. So we held them accountable when innocent civilians were killed.”

There is an equivalence between the ideology of Islamic jihadists and Republicans, and they should be met with the same force, he argued.

“Lone wolves are a thorn for domestic U.S. law enforcement as well, as we saw last week when a man not affiliated with any known group but immersed in right-wing propaganda attacked Paul Pelosi, the husband of Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi,” he wrote. “While the authorities have taken appropriate action against him, there are few signs that the government is taking the big-picture approach needed to combat the violence-inducing propaganda behind his crime.”

David DePape was immersed in right-wing propaganda? Well, San Francisco is chockfull of drug-addled, bus-dwelling, BLM-flag-waving, right-wing propagandists, after all.

This is the case and the perpetrator that got Polymeropoulos exercised. Not BLM. Not Antifa. No, David DePape, the avatar of right-wing extremism, and others like him are the real danger to the country.

And the problem behind these dangerous aggressors – the thing that fuels their treasonous activity – is that the U.S. Constitution gives American citizens more rights than foreign enemies

“The Constitution confers certain free-speech protections for extremist propaganda in the U.S. that prevent authorities from exactly replicating our foreign counterterrorism strategy here at home. But there are important lessons we can and should apply,” he said. “For one thing, we can exercise free speech to proclaim that the normalization of violence against politicians is dangerous and unacceptable. Some violent rhetoric might not be illegal, but it is all morally repugnant.”

Did Polymeropoulos refer to Bernie Sanders campaign volunteer James T. Hodgkinson, who shot up a baseball field of Republicans, nearly killing House Republican Whip Steve Scalise? It might have been smart of him to do so, but he didn’t.

Did he mention the super-charged rhetoric of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who, angered by the Supreme Court’s overtures to limit abortion, shouted at Justices Kavanaugh and Gorsuch that they would “pay the price”? “You won’t know what hit you,” said Schumer. No, Polymeropoulos didn’t mention that.

Did he cite the mob-inciting speech of Maxine Watters, who advocated for the harassment of political opponents in 2018? No, he did not.

Was he concerned about the firebombing of crisis pregnancy centers, the riots of summer 2020, the “doxing” of Republicans, the attempted murder of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, or the menacing presence of left-wing activists in front of the houses of Supreme Court justices?

Nope. None of that concerns the august counterterrorism operative.

But he does appear to want to be part of the effort to determine what DOES cross the line.

“To start with, we need to clearly identify what crosses the line into the realm of dangerous rhetoric. That means calling out those in the right-wing ecosphere who for years have demonized, and at times even promoted and encouraged, attacks on Pelosi,” he claimed. “The long list includes Marjorie Taylor Greene… and it includes the NRA, which put a picture of Pelosi next to an article with the headline ‘Target Practice’.”

There is “nothing equivalent being done on the other side of the aisle,” he argues. “Democratic politicians and leaders may not like Trump, but they don’t call for violence against him, let alone his execution.”

One wonders what this guy was doing during the Trump presidency. Didn’t one comedian hold up a decapitated Trump head? Didn’t a group of thespians put on a Julius Caesar play in the park, where instead of Caesar being killed it was President Trump? Wasn’t the vitriol against 45 constant and fever-pitched?
