Chris Pratt backs billionaire Rick Caruso for mayor after seeing LA ‘decline into pain and utter disarray’

Chris Pratt has endorsed billionaire Rick Caruso for Los Angeles mayor after witnessing a slow decline into chaos in the city over the past few years.

The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star took to Instagram to stump for his preferred political candidate this upcoming Tuesday.

“I’ve lived in LA for over 20 years. It’s been great to me. In that time I’ve seen what many residents here have seen, the city’s gradual decline into pain and utter disarray,” Pratt wrote on an Instagram stories post. “If you live here, you know exactly what I’m talking about.”

“I don’t normally support political candidates. But in this election, there’s too much to lose,” he said, adding, “If you’re an LA voter, I urge you to vote for @rickcarusola. He’s a builder. He knows how to get s–t done. He’s the guy for our city. Rick Caruso for LA Mayor.”

The billionaire real estate developer previously served as commissioner of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power under Mayor Tom Bradley in 1985. Caruso has also served as president of the LA Board of Police Commissioners and earned the backing of the Los Angeles Police Protective League earlier this year. Caruso’s real estate development is responsible for iconic California shopping centers such as the Grove, and the Palisades which are among the most successful in the country.

Caruso faces a tight mayoral race against US Congresswoman Karen Bass, and the latest polling shows it’s only getting tighter as Caruso has cut into Bass’s lead. A recent Los Angeles Times poll shows that 45% of eligible voters intend on casting their ballot for Bass, while 41% will go the way of Caruso. A critical 13% of likely voters remain undecided.

Pratt isn’t the only celebrity to voice their support of the re-minted Democrat recently. Maria Shriver, Pratt’s mother-in-law, lobbied her Twitter following to vote for Caruso as well. “This race is super tight and every vote matters. If you want Los Angeles to be different than it is today, the choice is clear with @RickCarusoLA. Change is critical to the city’s future. It’s up to us – let’s go,” she tweeted.

Elon Musk even took to publicly supporting Caruso in the mayoral race saying, “Los Angeles is fortunate to have someone like Rick Caruso running for mayor. He’s awesome.” Musk added that “executive competence” is something that Americans should be much more concerned about than political minutia.

Bass, who is serving her sixth term in the House of Representatives, is not without prized endorsements of her own. She won the most prized celebrity endorsement on that side of the aisle when former President Barack Obama supported her bid for LA mayor.

Caruso will be hoping that 13% percent of undecided voters will overlook his recent trend of hopping from one party to the other and focus on his campaign promises. When asked about his 2022 switch to the Democrat Party he said that wasn’t the issue voters were concerned with.

“I’m a Democrat, and I’m proud to be a Democrat,” Caruso said. “What fascinates me is that we’re even having this conversation because the electorate, the voters in the city don’t care about this. What the voters of the city care about is crime and homelessness and corruption.”
