Christopher Gaylor of Arkansas burst into a ball of flames after police were forced to use a taser to detain him.
On October 13, a trooper made contact with Gaylor, 38, who was riding his motorcycle at the time. He attempted to pull him over for several traffic infractions, and not having a visible license plate on a public roadway. Dashcam video from the trooper’s vehicle shows Gaylor evading the police and ignoring the lights and sirens. He races down the highway and eventually pulls off into a residential area.
Watch:
Once in the small town, Gaylor attempted to make a getaway by driving his motorcycle along a sidewalk. In the end, he “crashed out” and tried to flee on foot. He is chased down by the officer who opts to use the less-than-lethal method of tasing to bring the suspect into compliance. This is when he immediately explodes into a ball of fire, thanks to the gallon of gasoline he had been carrying in his backpack the whole time.
The police worked quickly to extinguish the flames and provide medical aid to the man until EMS could arrive. Gaylor was hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery. And when he does, he will be facing felony fleeing, failure to register a vehicle, no liability insurance, driving with a suspended license, and reckless driving charges.
According to the police, Gaylor did not attempt to communicate that he had a bag containing the gas, nor did he have any warning label to indicate he was transporting a flammable liquid. The Arkansas State Police have also reportedly not opened any investigations or disciplined any officer involved in this incident.
