It’s been over two months since a New York City woman suffered an assault that killed her dog, and she’s demanding answers.

Jessica Chrustic, a resident of Brooklyn’s affluent Park Slope neighborhood, suffered an attack by a man in Prospect Park on August 3rd that lead to the death of her dog, Moose.  Now, they’re no longer interested in catching the assailant.

“When they’d dropped me off, I thanked them for their time and that’s when they informed me that they were closing the case”, Chrustic said.

The NYPD’s apathy and incompetence has Chrustic ready to call them out.

“You claim that the buck stops at you when it comes to the NYPD,” Chrustic said Saturday. “I am shocked and disheartened that, months after I was assaulted and my dog was killed in Prospect Park, there continues to be no real resolution or justice in this matter. Indeed, it’s fair to say that I have been victimized twice; once by my assailant, and again by the NYPD’s negligence.”

Chrustic had seen her attacker many times in her local Prospect Park before the incident, and she was always tried to steer clear of him.  Since the attack, the crazed man has been reported in Prospect Park repeatedly by fellow residents yet no arrest has been made.

On Friday, after being alerted to her attacker’s presence in the park, Chrustic went searching for him.  She phoned the police and headed for the park.  She said it 40 minutes had passed before members of the NYPD arrived on scene.  “When I left the house, two people had already called 911. I was thinking I would get to the park and they would be there any second,” she said.

To her surprise, she found herself trailing the man through the park only to be assaulted once more.  When Chrustic confronted the vagrant, he came at her with what appeared to be mace and a stick, and forced her to flee the area.

“I don’t even know what else to say anymore. I don’t know what else to do,” she said. “I have done basically everything I can to make [NYPD’s] job as easy as possible. I can’t do their job for them.”

The left-leaning Brooklyn neighborhood  is represented by Democrat Shahana Hanif at the New York City Council. Hanif is a defund the police progressive. According to the New York Post, when Hanif was pressed on the matter she stated that the case was “complicated” but the New York Police Department was not “the vehicle to bring safety to our community.”

Ironically, police inaction led the neighborhood residents to form a vigilante-style group dubbed the Park Slope Panthers that disbanded almost immediately due to conflicted members of the community, and its first meeting was met with protests from activists.

Prospect Park Alliance and NYC Parks recently appointed long-time civil servant Morgan Monaco as the Alliance’s president and Prospect Park Administrator.  In a press release that highlighted “park equity” and diversity, there was no mention of the problem of ongoing crime and lack of security in the neighborhood’s beloved Prospect Park.
