GOP pollster Frank Luntz ramped up the pre-midterm hysteria by suggesting that a lack of faith in the results could lead to politicians on both sides refusing to accept losses, a scenario that would not only set off a collapse of confidence in the legitimacy of the political process but possibly a real civil war as well.
Luntz made his alarming remarks during an appearance on Friday’s edition of “Morning Joe” where he joined virulently anti-Trump hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski to discuss the most important off-year elections in the nation’s history, contests that could break the back of one-party Democratic Party rule, a prospect that has led to much anxiety inside of the D.C. Beltway and other leftist strongholds.

The husband and wife political tag team welcomed Luntz after a segment featuring biographer Jon Meacham who was promoting his new book on Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War during the show which as usual, was overflowing with alarmist commentary about the so-called insurrection on January 6, 2021, an obsession of the Democratic Party and its fellow establishment travelers.
“Governments are not performing in the way that the public wants, and I’m genuinely afraid in this country that we’re about two and a half weeks away from a group of candidates simply not accepting the results,” Luntz said, attempting to explain the dark undercurrent of distrust that currently exists in the country, “and this is my warning to you all and to the viewers watching at home.”
“We could have a situation of 2020 all over again and all over the country if governors, senators, secretaries of state choose not to accept their loss and continue to fight back,” he continued. “It’s not the just Republicans, um, we’re in trouble here, and your previous segment shows that we’ve been through this before… I don’t want us to get to a civil war, I want our democracy to survive and thrive,” he added, as he talked about a group of British students whom he’s teaching and their concern over “what has gone wrong” in both their country and in the U.S.
Scarborough – a former Republican congressman – then tried to get Luntz to agree with him about Trump supporters and America First candidates who haven’t bowed to the official regime narrative, especially with questions over 2020 and an election that Trump continues to contend didn’t pass the smell test, also accusing gubernatorial candidates of being “election deniers,” a not thinly veiled shot at Arizona’s Kari Lake.
“This is coming from the Republican Party,” he said, “and it seems to be a clear and present danger to American democracy does it not?”
Luntz didn’t take the bait. “Yes it does, but I’m doing everything I can to keep it nonpartisan,” he replied, clearly angering Scarborough who tried to shame him.
The polling guru then pointed out that “the same thing happened in 2016 when Democrats said the same thing about Donald Trump.”
“It happened in 2004,” he added in an example of more Democrat election denialism, “when they called it for George Bush and people thought that John Kerry won. We have gone back and forth. I just have to say, really, stop. Because this time in 2022 having been through the — I have to watch my language — keep going through what happened in 2020. If we do this again one more time, we are at the brink of losing faith of the majority of American people.”
“Frank. You know what, I., I., I..I.., “stammered Scarborough as he struggled to keep from blowing his stack while trying to get Luntz on the same page.
“I think that what the ex-president has done has been so destructive to democracy and I see what the damage is,” Luntz said, taking a shot at Trump that fell short of satisfying the hosts. “People can’t talk to each other. They don’t want to hear each other. They don’t want to listen. They don’t want to learn and our children are watching. We all around this table, we’re adults. I’m afraid the message being sent to the next generation, the students out there watching.”
“I’m not going to disagree with you. But what I’m going to say is if we want to repair that breach and find a better union as Lincoln did and go back to that segment, he did not want to damn the South. He didn’t want to punish them, he didn’t want Reconstruction, he wanted reconciliation. I’m trying to follow Lincoln’s lead right now,” he said, declining to label Trump supporters as enemies of the state as Biden did last month while bathed in demonic, blood-red lighting with strident demagoguery more befitting of a 1930s German beer hall than Philadelphia’s historic Independence Hall.

Scarborough wasn’t the only leftist fuming and Resistance Twitter trolls took to the platform to rail against Luntz.
Frank Luntz just both-sided election denial on Morning Joe and equated 2016 grumbling to what Republicans have been doing since 2020. What a joke.

The reality is that the ones who are most likely to reject the results at the ballot box are Democrats who are drunk on power – as seen by their taste for COVID totalitarianism – and aren’t going to simply accept the will of the people and the “democracy” that they love to invoke and it may get really, really ugly.
The rats – at least the ones who are smart – are already running for the lifeboats to avoid getting sucked down with the true believers in a ruthless power game that isn’t likely to end well.
