‘Despicable’: HS student, 15, arrested for allegedly body slamming cop to ground and pummeling him

A 15-year-old St. Cloud High School student in Florida is under arrest after a video shows him bodyslamming and then punching a school resource officer who was attempting to break up a fight between two 14-year-old boys.

In the shocking video, the towering teen throws his arms around the torso of SRO Ball and hurls him to the ground. he then jumps on top of the officer and pummels him.

According to Fox35 in Orlando, the attacking teen wasn’t even involved in the fight Ball was trying to stop.

Now, he faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence, Fox News reports.

In a Friday statement posted on Twitter, St. Cloud Police Chief Goerke called the incident “extremely disturbing.”

“As Officer Ball was separating two students from fighting each other, another student, suddenly and without provocation, walked up, dropped his backpack, and grabbed Officer Ball by the neck, pulling him away from the initial fight,” Goerke wrote.

“Officer Ball then focused his attention on the third student, attempting to control him with the least amount of force possible,” Goerke’s statement continued. “The student picked up Officer Ball and slammed him to the ground.”

According to Goerke, it took the help of several people to tame the out-of-control student.

“With the help of a few amazing students and a school administrator, Officer Ball and another School Resource Officer were able to gain control of the student on the ground until other officers arrived to assist them in securing the student,” he wrote.

The chief called the attack “despicable.”

“To be clear, the incident Officer Ball was dealing with did not involve the student that was arrested. Officer Ball was there to prevent two other students from harming each other,” he explained. “What occurred to Officer Ball was despicable and should never have happened. We will never tolerate behavior that targets our officers and will hold those accountable at the highest levels.”

To that end, the teen was taken to Orlando’s Juvenile Assessment Center.

While no other arrests were made at that time, charges for the two 14-year-olds of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence were filed to the State Attorney’s Office, according to Fox News.

In his statement, Chief Goerke praised School Resource Officers.

“I am so proud of our School Resource Officers,” he wrote. “They truly care about our students and show the highest poise and compassion.”

“Officer Ball is the epitome of professionalism and has been at St. Cloud High School for the past twelve years,” he continued. “The outpouring of support for Officer Ball on social media has been amazing. We will continue to work closely with our partners at the Osceola County School District to ensure our students’ safety while on campus.”
