California Governor Gavin Newsom has reacted to gas prices which are once again spiking in his state by announcing that he will call an emergency special session of the legislature to push for yet another new tax in a misguided attempt to shift the blame to oil companies, a familiar bogeyman for Democrats seeking to deflect from their own failed policies.
Furious efforts by the Biden regime to artificially lower the price at the pump by draining the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserves have resulted in dramatically lowering the cost of gas since it hit a staggering average of $5 a gallon this summer, but the decision by OPEC to cut production comes at a terrible time for an unscrupulous and malicious Democrat Party that is desperately trying to maintain its one-party stranglehold on the national government in the upcoming midterms.
Newsom – who has White House aspirations – announced that he will be calling California’s Democrat supermajority into session after the elections to push for a punitive windfall profits tax on oil companies.
“I’m calling for a Special Session to address the greed of oil companies. Gas prices are too high. Time to enact a windfall profits tax directly on oil companies that are ripping you off at the pump,” the Sacramento slickster tweeted on Friday.

“This is just rank price gouging,” Newsom railed against oil companies at a Friday press conference. “They can get away with it. They’re fleecing. They’re taking advantage of you, every single one of you, every single day.”
“It’s time to get serious,” he said. “I’m sick of them defining the terms, defining the narrative.”
According to AAA, the average price per gallon in Newsom’s California is $6.36 per gallon as of Saturday morning, nearly $2.50 a gallon higher than the national average which is on the rebound upwards as well, more bad news for American consumers already battered by the worst inflation in four decades under Biden’s dismal leadership.

Newsom’s claim that the staggering cost of gas in his state can solely be blamed on Big Oil drew the mockery of Twitter users who lit him up like a Christmas tree.
“Gas prices in Florida are half the price in California. Why is it only California with $7 gas right now!” tweeted Christina Pushaw, Rapid Response Director for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ campaign, gas is $3.32 a gallon in the Sunshine State per AAA, well below the national average.

“Raising taxes on oil companies to keep the price of gas down is like drilling holes in the bottom of a sinking boat to let all the water out,” opined editorial director Christian Schneider of the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank.

“Crazy how oil companies seem to only be greedy in California,” wrote one user, including a visual from GasBuddy showing that Newsom’s California is by far the most expensive place to fill up in the nation.

More reactions to Newsom’s misdirection play:
I just filled my tank for about half of what it costs in California. That oil company greed must be fiendishly selective toward the Golden State. Unless it’s something else making life hell in #Newsom’s #California.. https://t.co/cd5c6Z1hU0

Only an economically illiterate Democrat would think enacting yet another state tax on petroleum companies will bring about a decrease in gas prices LOL. You couldn’t make up this level of stupid if you tried.

California’s state gas tax is $.54 a gallon.
California’s gas prices are $3.50 more than the national average.Even if they suspended the gas tax we’d still be paying $3 more a gallon than the national average. That’s almost double the national average.
It’s not the tax.

I was just in your state. I paid $7 a gallon. I’m now in my state of Colorado. I now pay $3.70 a gallon.
How is that the ‘oil companies’ that makes gas cost twice as much in California as it does in Colorado?
It’s not the oil companies that makes gas so expensive in California!

Oil companies will just end up leaving the state, I don’t blame them. He’s chasing out all tax paying companies with his policies. Which in turn will screw all Californians to pick up the tab, making it even more unaffordable to be in this state.

Unfortunately for Californians, Newsom and his fellow Democrats have absolutely no real solutions and they are paying the price for the disastrous one-party rule that has destroyed the state.
