Outrage over video showing daycare workers terrorizing crying children with scary mask, screaming in their faces

Parents were furious when four now-terminated employees at a Mississippi daycare were caught on video going room to room scaring the little children with a Halloween ghost mask.

The blowback from the incident was first reported by WTVA News 9 which spoke to parents in the community. Many were “outraged” over the actions of the daycare workers. Footage shows two separate incidents occurring in September and on October 4.

An employee wearing the nightmarish mask knocks on the door of each room and goes in terrorizing the children who scream and cry at the scary visage, seemingly traumatized by the event. Other employees laughed as the kids screamed.

During the video, an unmasked woman appears to point out children who should be punished. She remarked that a sitting child had been “bad” and the masked employee got in the face of the little one, screaming, taunting, and asking, “Do I need to take you outside?” The pretend monster then warned, “Y’all better be ready.”

No criminal charges have been filed so far according to Monroe County Sheriff Kevin Crook who spoke to WTVA in an interview. But authorities are investigating the incident. The owner of the Lil’ Blessings Daycare claims she did not know what her staff was pulling. It resulted in the firing of four employees.

Crook, however, is in favor of legal action here.

“As a dad and as someone who has great compassion for those who can’t defend themselves, I admit it was very hard to watch these videos today; and my initial reaction was the same as most anyone else I would think,” he told WTVA.

“They deserve to be charged. It made me sick at my stomach to think of the terror those kids were enduring. It still does. My heart and prayers go out to the parents who are dealing with these same emotions right now. We have a 17yo, a 13yo, and a 2yo in our home right now, so I get it, trust me,” Crook said.

A daycare staffer recorded and then leaked the video because she was afraid reporting it to ownership would not address the abuse, according to Outkick. Daycare employee Jennifer Kayla Newman claims this is the second time an employee dressed up to scare the children since September.

“A couple of weeks ago some girls at the daycare bought Halloween masks to scare the kids, they did it and I never got it on video,” Newman posted on Facebook.

“The kids were terrified but I knew if I told the owner, it would be a slap on the wrist for them as I’ve complained about other things in the past and nothing ever got done. So, when I heard she was going to do it again, I recorded to get the proof, and then the video was sent to parents to show them how their child was being treated,” she added.

“I wasn’t here at the time. I wasn’t aware that they were doing that, and I don’t condone that and never have,” the owner told WTVA’s Ethan Foster during an interview. “I just wanted to say that it’s been taken care of.”

“I would have fired them on the spot,” one resident named Brenda Honeycutt contended. She insisted that the owner didn’t have any knowledge of the actions of her employees concerning the mask.

One of the mothers, Keegan Hays, whose little girl was in the video and was terrified by the mask, asserts that security cameras need to be installed to instill trust in the daycare center once again.

Disgust was off the charts over the employees’ actions:
