Nationwide outrage is brewing over a video showing a toddler in New York being forced to mask up by a daycare worker despite him clearly not wanting to wear a mask.
Critics say the daycare worker’s actions amount to “child abuse.” But the mother, Ann Walker, says she’s not angry at the daycare worker but rather at New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who last week ordered daycares to start masking up kids two and older.
The video surfaced on Walker’s Facebook page Friday.
“This is my poor kid at daycare today so I can work. #breaksmyheart #governorhochulthiswontwork #whyarewepunishingbabies,” its initial caption read.
After the video went viral, Walker added a clarification.
“I’m not upset with his daycare they are attempting to comply with the mandate. I love where he is. I’m pissed out our governor and OCFS who think mandating two- year-old to wear a mask 7-10 hours a day is at all necessary. #unmaskourbabies,” she wrote.

Though the video was shared to Facebook and it did indeed attract quite a bit of attention there, it wound up going uber-viral on Twitter.
It generated massive outrage, with critics saying their rage was “reaching epic levels,” critics accusing society of being “deeply ill” and critics concluding that people have lost “their minds.”
Here’s a small sample of the outrage below:
Do not tell me this isn’t child abuse. Forcing a child to do something that has NO benefits and only causes harm is abuse. https://t.co/I4xGmMk1s7

One critic followed Walker’s lead by arguing that while the daycare worker’s actions reeked of “derangement, compliance, fear, ignorance, misguidance,” they didn’t appear to be rooted in any intentional “malice.”

However, the same likely cannot be said of Gov. Hochul or the countless other Democrat political leaders across the states who’ve been demanding that children be masked for their own safety and well-being.
“With the Delta variant on the rise, requiring masks at state-regulated child care, mental health, and substance abuse facilities is a key part of our broader strategy for slowing the spread of the virus, reopening our economy safely, and protecting vulnerable members of our population,” the governor announced last Wednesday.
“For children under 12 who are not yet eligible to be vaccinated, masks are the best line of defense against COVID-19 infection. This new mask requirement ensures that children in our child care facilities receive the same protection as children in our schools.”
Listen:
The problem is that much of the civilized world disagrees. The majority of European nations, including the U.K., have opted out of mandating masks for children because of the “negative effects” they engender.
“The U.K. has always, from the beginning, emphasized they do not see a place for face coverings for children if it’s avoidable,” Dr. Shamez Ladhani, a pediatric infectious-disease specialist at St. George’s Hospital in London, said to The New York Times for a story published late last month.
According to Ladhani, the negative effects of children wearing masks far exceeds any potential benefits because the ability for children to be able to see one another’s faces is “important for the social development and interaction between people.”
Twitter users responding to Walker’s made the same argument:
The lack of language development and social & emotional development in young children will have long lasting, detrimental effects. Do NOT allow this to happen to your child. This is not “science.”

I hate how messed up mentally these kids are going to become

They also noted the utter lack of logic and common sense in the daycare worker putting her hands all over the toddler and his face. If anything, they argued, that seemed far more likely to spread the coronavirus than the child being unmasked.
Indeed, the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) notes that “[t]o reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), experts recommend that you not touch your face because the virus is transmitted through mucous membranes in the mouth, nose and eyes.”
She’s literally touching all over his face and the mask, negating whatever purpose they think the mask has. “Wear a mask so people don’t get sick, but let me constantly touch your face and mask with my hands”
— Silkman (@The_Silk_Man) September 18, 2021
Let alone the germs their hands have on them continuously touching his face to pull it on him.. They probably have to do this to twenty other kids and they get everything from colds, flu, stomach viruses and many many more things.. #masks don’t work…

Touch his face more. That’ll help.

Yet to the zealously pro-mask left, forcing children to wear masks is the logical and “common-sense” solution, which incidentally may explain why conservatives are so wary whenever the left propose “common-sense” solutions to gun violence …
