Just when you thought Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter was dead in the water, the billionaire notified the lawyers of the social media giant late Monday night, saying he’d had a change of heart.
The king of late-night, Greg Gutfeld, seemed excited about it, saying that if the deal goes through, it could “save the country.” It would have the added benefit of providing his Fox News talk show with years of fodder as the Left melts down.
“The media knows what they could lose with Musk,” observed the “Gutfeld!” host. “It’s the freedom to amplify biased narratives to help their political allies, while also suffocating stories that might bolster your point of view. We saw this with Russian collusion, the assorted race hoaxes, January 6, oh and, of course, Hunter Biden. They feared that their nonsense might get drowned out by more nonsense or worse, actual truth.”

Talking heads on the left, concerned about misinformation (while being full of it) say it’s a “recipe for disaster” and that Musk “wants to remove the guardrails around free speech.” And of course, they fantasize about the deal falling through again.
Indeed, you have to wonder – is Musk just making news, or is the deal going to go through this time? Investors seem to be 90% sure this is it, as evidenced by the 22% surge in the stock price that followed the news.
In any case, it just goes to show once again that smart people don’t ride the conventional wisdom train. Conventional wisdom only proves the uselessness of the “experts” who establish it.
But, why now? Presumably, Musk would like to avoid the trial. Perhaps his lawyers determined he wouldn’t prevail in his suit over the bots issue and other deceitful practices. The purchase would cancel the trial, of course. Or, as Gutfeld said, maybe he just has $44 billion just burning a hole in his pocket.
As to the potential effects of the purchase, the comedian/commentator delighted red-meat-loving patriots with this gem:
“But if Twitter is truly the country’s town square, then Elon buying Twitter is saving the country.”
Conservatives want to witness a sea change, and they see blood in the water as they witness the panic on the Left.
One might inject a dose of reality from history. When Fox News started up, it was a balm to the souls of those whose view of the world had no representation in the media. No one could imagine a “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on the air in the ’80s or ’90s, but now we can tune in and learn what is really happening. But did it reach entrenched Democrat voters? Not in significant numbers. They hear horror stories about how idiotic and hateful Fox News is and just keep tuning in to the mainstream. The country is divided up pretty much as it was before Roger Ailes launched his network.
In the case of a Twitter takeover, the safe prediction is that angry leftists on Twitter won’t see conservative tweets and suddenly lurch to the right. They’ll just get angrier.
Nevertheless, it could go a long way toward restoring free speech in this country, which is its own benefit. It is a big deal.
“Here is the really huge truth,” said Gutfeld, “Elon owning Twitter is big because Twitter already owns the media. So Musk buying Twitter means he just bought them, too.”
Twitter has been the home of millions of words from the Left that turned out to be untrue. Meanwhile, the platform has banned speech from those whose views turn out to be true. Considering those undeniable facts, it seems that Twitter’s virtuous censorship has been an utter failure. In the olden days, that would cause the downfall of a company, but we’re way past that in today’s upside-down world. (Just look at the FBI, still humming along completely undisturbed, despite its apparent disinterest in fulfilling its charter.)
Musk’s purchase is the modern remedy. Buy the thing and stop the destructive policies of ideological censorship. Here’s how Gutfeld breaks that down:
“If you talk a lot about crime, then Twitter will say such talk is racist. If you criticize our border policy, our open borders, will then that’s xenophobia. If you talk about COVID too much, well then that’s just misinformation. If you talk about your kids’ education sucking, well, then you’re a domestic terrorist. If you question gender affirmation surgery, well, clearly you want trans-kids to die. You see, this town square is more like a black hole where truth goes to die to be replaced by propaganda. It’s less a conversation than it is a controlling mechanism against dissent. It is a town square in that it’s just like Tiananmen Square, and Musk is the dude standing in front of the tank.”
The billionaire has many hurdles to clear, such as the apparent abandonment of certain high-powered co-investors. Additionally, there are many questions as to the effects the purchase would have on the Twitter-sphere.
Darren Beattie absolutely nails the challenges Elon Musk faces in order to purchase twitter.

What do Twitter users think of the news?
The Elon Musk/Twitter purchase looks set to proceed. Many celebrating possible ‘freedom of speech,’ are caught up in the short game. Musk is playing the long game, the ultimate implementation of ‘App X’ which will NOT be for your benefit, despite what his marketing team may say. pic.twitter.com/T3tkypKhZl

On @MSNBC. Elon Musk, if allowed to purchase Twitter, has said that he will charge people to ‘pay to tweet.’ I am not here, to make that guy richer. I will leave. Will you?

Doesn’t quite have the teeth of the old threat of leaving the country if Trump wins the presidency. (Did any virtue-signaling Hollywood type actually expatriate when Trump won?) Bottom line, it will be a major benefit to the public square if Sanjosemailman and others like him do stop tweeting. You’re all still going to be welcome. But if you can’t be in a room with people who think different things, you should rethink your life as an American and let the grown-ups do the talking.
Or as Rising Serpent put it,
I don’t care about or trust Elon Musk.
But if the only good thing that comes out of his purchase of Twitter is that there’s a mass epidemic of liberal rectal prolapses and self effigies, that’s money well spent in my book— Rising serpent 🇺🇸 (@rising_serpent) October 6, 2022
Here is an interesting admission from a blue-check user musing about the removal of bots:
I have lost 15,000 followers on Twitter today after news broke about Elon Musk following through with his purchase.
Do you think they’re covering up their tracks by removing bots?

Fiery hair on the Left aside, there is a lot of excitement about the deal.
The media meltdown over Elon Musk’s twitter purchase is epic. Free speech threatens them because the facts are on the side of conservatives pic.twitter.com/dCNPuMCsJV
