Bill Clinton breaks with Dems, says ‘there is a limit’ to how many immigrants US can take without ‘disruption’

Former President Bill Clinton told host Fareed Zakaria on CNN’s “Global Public Square” podcast that there is a “limit” to how many illegal immigrants the United States can take without causing disruption and that some “game” the system.

“Now what you have is a lot of people who are essentially economic migrants… essentially gaming the system, using the asylum as a way to get in. Isn’t it true that there has to be some order placed on this? Some control?” Zakaria asked.

“I agree with that. That there is a limit to how many migrants any society can take without severe disruption and assistance, and our system is based much more on an assumption that things would be more normal,” he stated, referring to the historically unprecedented number of border crossings.

Over 2.1 million illegal immigrants have been apprehended by Border Patrol agents this fiscal year, according to the Daily Mail. That is the highest number ever recorded in the history of the Department of Homeland Security. In August alone, there were 203.000 border crossings.

Clinton spoke of immigration when he was young and how Mexican migrants would cross back and forth over the border to work in agriculture, and how it “worked for people.'”

“It’s an old story, but now you’ve got the largest number of refugees since World War II because of Syria and now Ukraine and other problems,” he pointed out, also noting a rise in illegal immigrants from Venezuela.

The former president didn’t miss the opportunity to take pot shots at Republicans though. He went after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for busing migrants to Washington, D.C., New York, and Chicago.

“What’s happening in Venezuela, more than 2 million refugees pouring into first Colombia then nearby countries has created unprecedented new challenges and meanwhile provides opportunities for stunts like Gov. Abbott’s — sending his refugees to someplace that he thinks is advocating for a broad-minded policy that it doesn’t have to live with,” he remarked.

Texas has shipped off over 10,000 illegal immigrants to Democratic-controlled cities to give them a taste of what red states are experiencing due to the lawlessness on the southern border. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey have followed suit resulting in howls from leftists in blue strongholds.

“Texas’ inundated border towns are now receiving a measure of relief, and importantly, the magnitude of this ongoing crisis is finally gaining the national attention it deserves,” Abbott said, according to Fox News. “Americans are now witnessing a startling national security failure that [President Biden] continues to dismiss.”

Clinton couldn’t resist poking at DeSantis’ chartered planes that ferried 50 migrants to Martha’s Vineyard.

“DeSantis sending those people to Martha’s Vineyard was amazing. That may come back to haunt him a little bit,” he predicted.

Clinton, 76, is seen as further to the right on a number of issues than progressive Democrats, including immigration.

“There are some areas that the federal government should not leave and should address and address strongly. One of these areas is the problem of illegal immigration. After years of neglect, this administration has taken a strong stand to stiffen the protection of our borders. We are increasing border controls by 50 percent. We are increasing inspections to prevent the hiring of illegal immigrants. And tonight, I announce I will sign an executive order to deny federal contracts to businesses that hire illegal immigrants,” Clinton said in his 1996 State of the Union address
