Radically far-left California Gov. Gavin Newsom appears to have joined the chorus of left-wing voices who now say that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is a bigger threat to America and democracy in general than former President Donald Trump.
Speaking on Saturday at The Texas Tribune Festival, an event that has thus far featured almost exclusively left-wing speakers, he said that while he worries about Trump, he worries more about the likes of DeSantis, among others.
“I worry about Trump. I worry about Trumpism. I worry more about Tucker Carlson. I worry about Ron DeSantis. He’s a bully. He threatened the Special Olympics with $27 million in fines. Who does that?” he said.
“[Texas Gov. Greg] Abbott is light-years ahead in policy, but DeSantis weaponized it, the next level. So yeah, I worry about Trump because Trump’s proven that democracy is now partisan, which is remarkable.”

Just for clarification, DeSantis threatened to fine the organizers of the Special Olympics after said organizers tried to impose a draconian, unconstitutional vaccine mandate on participating athletes.
The governor issued the threat on behalf of the disabled athletes, who reportedly were thankful after the Special Olympics dropped the mandate because of his threat.
SCOOP: The State or Florida threatened the Special Olympics with $27.5 MILLION in fines because the organization had a vaccine requirement at its games in Orlando this weekend.

Florida said the vaccine rule conflicted with state law, and disqualified Special Olympics athletes from competing based on their vaccine status.
State said they heard from athletes and families of athletes who complained.

Then, the Special Olympics put out this notice.

Newsom continued his attack by criticizing DeSantis’ decision to fly 50 illegal aliens to Martha’s Vineyard, one of the richest liberal enclaves in America.
“Look, it’s clear that DeSantis broke the law. Question is which law did he break. Did he break the laws of his own state? Did he break federal law? But one thing he did is he broke with precedent, any precedent of decency and honor,” he said.
“His lack of character on display. He comes into another state — your state — to try to find pawns in a political game, rounds them up, sends them to an island, and then fund-raises off it. What does that say about his character and the character of the Republican Party that celebrated that act of cruelty and dehumanization?”

Newsom’s comments about DeSantis reflect a pattern that’s been observed now for decades. The pattern is such that the next rising Republican star is always painted as a Nazi, as Hitler, etc., while former Republican stars are always rehabilitated.
This is why, despite years of the media smearing former President George W. Bush, they now treat him with respect and dignity. The same with former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, the late Sen. John McCain, etc.
The same now appears to be happening with Trump, albeit to a lesser degree, in part because of the media’s singular hatred of him, as well as the fact that he may be en route back into the White House come 2025.
Still, the following op-ed published in The New York Times last week is a perfect example of this phenomenon:

Apparently, Trump, who was described as “Orange Hitler” only days ago, now suddenly has “soft edges and eccentricity” — unlike that dastardly DeSantis.
See how it works? Whoever’s the current GOP star is a new “Hitler” worse than the old “Hitler.” Every single time.
