FB quickly reverses ban on conservative book publisher’s ads, provides no explanation for suspension

After a reportedly unexplained ban on their advertisements, Facebook reversed the decision called an “existential threat” by a conservative book publisher who contended “countless small businesses” have been “ruined by these types of actions.”

Brave Books made headlines in 2021 when it kicked off its “pro-God,” “pro-America” children’s book series with the anti-woke “Elephants are Not Birds,” knocking down the promotion of queer theory and an acceptance of transgender ideology. Now, as they promoted the launch of Fox News anchor Julie Banderas’ “Fiona’s Fantastical Fort,” the publisher reported their advertisements were permanently banned by Facebook’s parent company Meta.

Fox Business initially covered the story as Brave Books founder Trent Talbot explained the unexpected notice on Thursday that included the message, “After a final review of this ad account, we confirmed it didn’t comply with our Advertising Policies or other standards. You can no longer advertise with this ad account and its ads and assets will remain disabled. This is our final decision.”

“Meta’s decision to permanently ban our account is an ‘existential threat’ to our company,” Talbot explained and went on to state, “When I started BRAVE Books, I never would have imagined that picture books of cute talking animals who live on Freedom Island and teach kids about pro-God and pro-America values could ever be so controversial. Freedom Island is not so free anymore.”

After Fox News Digital reached out to Facebook for comment, and following the initial rejection of appeal submitted by Brave Books, a spokesperson for the social media company reported “The account is currently active,” without comment on the suspension.

“Oh, and speaking of woke policies,” Banderas wrote on Twitter after sharing a snippet of a Fox News interview where she discussed the inspiration for her children’s book, “Fiona’s Fantastical Fort.”

“Another attempt to cancel conservatives goes down in flames.”

“This is a prime example of big tech today,” Talbot told the outlet after he had been made aware of Facebook’s apparent reversal. “They shut down small companies who say anything contrary to their woke agendas. They may reinstate accounts only when they are hit with bad PR, only to throttle those same accounts to make them ineffective.”

He went on to note, “We’re fortunate we have a large enough platform to draw attention to their malicious ways but there are, no doubt, countless small businesses that have been abused and ruined by these types of actions.”

As Fox Business pointed out, the suspension took place after the publisher, which has released titles by conservatives such as Jack Posobiec, Ashley St. Clair, and Dinesh D’Souza, had run an ad where Banderas discussed her new book with Brian Kilmeade on Fox News Radio saying, “Every single book has a positive message. It’s like an anti-woke, pro-American, teaching morals, values, you know everything kids aren’t learning in public schools these days.”

“The lessons Brave Books is putting into their Freedom Island Series are what I want my kids to embody,” Banderas said of her decision to write for the publisher. “The lessons include a sanctity of life, unconditional love within the home, the harmfulness of critical race theory–and more.”

“Parents need a way to instill the God-given values and truths this country was founded on in the most engaging way possible. That is why we started the Freedom Island series, fun and engaging books with games and activities for the whole family that teach the values that made our country strong,” Talbot explained before pointedly asking, “Why does Facebook want to cancel that?”
