‘It was a joke guys!’ Frustrated Whoopi forced to walk back Lindsey Graham gay jab after immediate backlash

It seems Whoopi Goldberg can no longer open her mouth on “The View” without something offensive falling out of it, as evidenced by her conversation with White House press secretary Karine Jeane-Pierre on Wednesday’s show, during which she suggested South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham (R) is secretly a homosexual.

Jean-Pierre was blasting Graham over his support of a federal ban on abortions after 15 weeks. Graham had previously voiced the opinion that the federal government should stay out of issues such as marriage and abortion and leave it to the states to decide, and Jeanne-Pierre demanded to know “what changed.”

And that’s when the “comic” in Goldberg once again possessed her and overrode the filter that should be telling her to keep her mouth shut.

“Maybe he’s getting married,” went flying from her lips.

Laughter and applause rolled through the studio audience as her colleagues on the panel gasped and giggled.

“Do it quick, because I know people are fooling around with our marriage rights, wherever you stand,” she blurted out before cutting to a commercial.

By the time the break was over, Goldberg had clearly been properly chastised off-camera by the show’s producers.

Obviously shaken — but not without a hint of defiance — Goldberg attempted to assuage the mob she had to know would be coming for her on social media before continuing on to the next segment.

“Sometimes I make jokes, and it was a joke,” she told the audience. “Nothing more than that.”

“I just got a whole conversation about people misunderstanding the joke,” she stated. “I mean, OK. I should probably never do this show again if this is what it’s coming to. It was a joke, guys.”

To be fair, Goldberg isn’t the only one to have publicly questioned Graham’s bachelor status and sexual proclivities, though why anyone would want to think about Lindsey Graham having sex in any context remains a mystery.

As Fox News notes, Chelsea Handler, Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, and Patti LuPone have made similar swypes at Graham over the years. And the digs don’t come only from the left. Popular conservative Blaze Media host Steve Deace routinely and unapologetically makes sexually-charge jokes at Graham’s expense online and on “The Steve Deace Show.”

But Goldberg is still recovering from a two-week suspension earlier this year, after she claimed with stunning ignorance that the Holocaust wasn’t a racial thing because it was “two white groups of people” fighting each other.

She didn’t exactly apologize for her joke about Graham, but she may wish she had.

Twitter is not being kind to her, and this time, the entire show is being skewered.

“That show needs to be canceled,” tweeted one user, “they just spread lies and hate.”

“It used to be a good show,” wrote another. “Choose not to watch anymore.”

“The View: Always having to explain or apologize for something they say,” another stated. “So why are they still on.”
