‘Sex-positive’ NY weatherman loses job of his ‘dreams’ when boss receives nude pics of him

Erick Adame, an erstwhile Spectrum News NY1 weatherman, was first suspended, then terminated, after his boss received photos of him captured from an adult webcam site.

Faced with the consequences of his incredibly poor judgment, Adame was rhetorically contrite while being legally bullish.

“I am taking this opportunity to share my truth rather than let others control the narrative of my life,” he wrote in a post on his Instagram account.

“Despite being a public figure and being on television in the biggest market in the country in front of millions of people five days a week for more than a decade and a half, I secretly appeared on an adult webcam website…performing on camera for other men,” Adame confessed.  “It was absurd of me to think I could keep this private.”

“My psychiatrist calls my actions, ‘compulsive behavior,'” said a humbled Adame in his post. “Others would call them reckless, stupid or brazen. I’m not in a position to argue with any of these descriptions.”

Meanwhile, at the Manhattan Supreme Court there is a thunderstorm warning, where the weatherman’s petition was filed a short time before making his apology on Instagram. Adame apparently feels that his termination was unfair, since it came about as the result of someone’s illegal use of his images. He will argue that a man took naked screenshots of him from a video chat website (Unit 4 Media LTD) without his permission, the New York Post reported.

The weatherman will further argue that there was malice on the part of the person who distributed the pictures, not only to his boss but also to his mother. He did so “with intent of harassing, annoying, or alarming [Adame] and tortiously interfering with [Adame’s] employment relationship,” the court documents said.

Adame’s lawsuit is against an unknown person. The website is not handing over the real identity of the malicious person whose photos brought a tornado into Adame’s life, but we do know the alleged usernames, which include Sonal Prehonn, Tommysize29, Funtimes99, and Landonboy227. Adame seeks a court order to force the site to reveal the identity of the person so that he can sue him/her/them.

In his statement, the Emmy-nominated newsman apologized to his employer, his co-workers, his audience and friends and family “for any embarrassment or humiliation I have caused you.”

He also lamented the loss of his job and seemed to accept that he brought it on himself.

“I had the job of my dreams and I lost it due to my own lapse in judgment,” he wrote, saying also that he is “getting the professional help I need so I can make appropriate decisions that don’t affect those I care deeply about, as well as my career, as I move forward in my life.”

Adame’s apology stops short of lifestyle repentance.

“I don’t apologize for being openly gay or for being sex-positive,” he said. “Those are gifts and I have no shame about them.”

Sex-positive – it’s a thing… which is to say it’s a hashtag. A sex educator in Texas, Goody Howard, says that “sex positivity is the idea that people should have space to embody, explore, and learn about their sexuality and gender without judgment or shame.”

Perhaps media employers, after a sensible length of time, will give this sex-positive on-screen personality a second chance.

“I’m optimistic, and perhaps naive enough to think that I can be back on television and do this again someday.”

Unit 4 Media’s lawyer Lawrence Walters said that “Capturing and disseminating user content without consent violates our client’s Terms of Service and forum Rules which may result in a suspension or banning of the offending accounts.” He also said that the company will always comply with lawfully issued subpoenas when and if the court grants them.
