Trump one of five former living US presidents invited to DC memorial service for Queen Elizabeth II

After former President Trump failed to receive an invitation to the Queen’s funeral, even though they had been close, he was formally invited as one of five former presidents to an exclusive memorial service in Washington, D.C. honoring her.

Whether Trump will attend has not been disclosed. The former president was handed an invitation by the British Government to attend the vigil. There is no word if the other four former presidents will attend either.

President Biden and first lady Jill Biden will attend the Queen’s funeral on Monday in London. Approximately 500 other world leaders and foreign dignitaries will join them.

While the left has made a huge deal about Trump not being put on the guest list, neither were Jimmy Carter, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, or George W. Bush.

“We are following convention as you’d expect and have invited all former Presidents as well as President and Dr. Biden and other members of the Administration,” a British embassy spokesperson told the Daily Mail in an interview.

The royals are claiming that there is a lack of space at Westminster Abbey where the ceremony will be held. Its capacity is reportedly around 2,200 people.

The five former presidents have been invited instead to a special “Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II” at Washington’s National Cathedral on Wednesday, according to the Telegraph.

The Cathedral’s bell tolled 96 times after Her Majesty’s death last Thursday to give thanks for her lifetime of devotion. The Queen had visited the Cathedral four times during her lifetime.

“Together with people the world over, we give thanks today for the lifetime of devotion and service exhibited by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, and pray with all those who mourn the loss of this extraordinary woman,” the Cathedral said in a statement. “Queen Elizabeth was more than a monarch. Through 70 years of service to her God and to her people, Queen Elizabeth embodied an unrivaled sense of duty, devotion, and fidelity.

The service will feature an honor guard from the Queen’s Colour Squadron. That is the unit of the Royal Air Force that is charged with the safekeeping of the Monarch’s Colour for the RAF.

The Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, the Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde, will preside over the service. The Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry, the presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, is also expected to speak. He delivered the sermon at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018.

Trump was a huge fan of the Queen. The former president and Melania sent their condolences after her passing.

“Melania and I are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Together with our family and fellow Americans, we send our sincere condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom during this time of great sorrow and grief,” he wrote on Truth Social.

“Melania and I will always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty’s generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor. What a grand and beautiful lady she was—there was nobody like her!” he continued.

Trump delivered an eloquent tribute after her passing.

“As monarch, Her Majesty the Queen was the personal embodiment of nearly a century of British history. Every Prime Minister from Winston Churchill onward served under her. When I asked her who was her favorite, she told me she liked them all,” the president wrote.

“She saw her country through the Blitz of London, the Cold War, the Falklands conflict, the coal miners’ strike, Brexit, COVID, and so much more,” he stated. “No matter what challenges came, she was always there for her people–resolute and unflappable, stabilizing and reassuring by her very presence. In the face of all adversity, she embodied the uniquely British attribute of a firm and quiet resolve.”

“The qualities that served Queen Elizabeth so well as monarch also endeared her to the hearts of countless people all over the world,” Trump continued and called meeting the Queen, “one of the most extraordinary honors of my life.”
